🦾 Roboter im ARD Morgenmagazin #MOMA: Es hat mir sehr gefallen, dass heute im Fernsehen über das European Robotics Forum (#ERF) in Stuttgart berichtet wird. Auch Werner Kraus vom Fraunhofer IPA sowie Dieter Fox von NVIDIA wurden im Beitrag zitiert. ❗ Das ist wichtig, denn durch humanoide Roboter ist die Robotik nicht nur ein Thema für Fabriken, sondern für die gesamte Gesellschaft. ❗ Weltweit arbeiten Ingenieure aktuell an Lösungen, die der Robotik einen riesigen Entwicklungsschub verleihen.  Vieles was vor wenigen Jahren noch eine Utopie war, scheint nun greifbar nah. ‼️ Umso wichtiger ist es, sich damit zu beschäftigen. Allen, die nicht auf dem #ERF 2025 sein konnten empfehle ich dazu zwei Web-Panels der VDI nachrichten, die gute Einblicke in die technische Diskussion und die gesellschaftlichen Folgen immer leistungsfähigerer Roboter liefern: 👉 1.      Im Web-Panel „Vom Cobot zum humanoiden Roboter– Welcher Robotertyp passt zu Ihren Anforderungen?“ diskutieren Prof. Dominik Bösl, Nikolai Ensslen und David Reger über die notwendigen technischen Anforderungen. Braucht ein Roboter wirklich Beine oder reichen Rollen? Wie sieht es mit der Funktionalen Sicherheit aus? Er nennt aber auch Vorschläge für alternative Einkommensquellen. ERF 2025 in Stuttgart: A Gathering of Brilliant Minds in Robotics! ERF 2025 was an incredible event, bringing together the brightest minds in European robotics. From innovative workshops to groundbreaking discussions, it was an exciting exploration of where our field is headed. Thanks to Werner Kraus for organising this truly inspiring event. Here’s a quick reflection on some of the standout moments:   6G Empowering Robotics Workshop: A Great Success! The “6G Empowering Robotics” workshop was a highlight, illustrating how 6G will transform the future of robotics. Big thanks to co-organizer Mona Ghassemian and all the contributors, including Kaspar Althoefer, Jesus Fernandez-Lozano, Karol Janik, Alireza Rastegarpanah, Francisco Javier Pérez Grau , Albena Mihovska, Ph.D. , Javier Luque Lobato, Howard Li, Josef Eichinger, Azmat H., Daniel Gordon, Hemesh Avireddy, PhD, Juha Röning, Rich Walker, Reinhard Lafrenz, Dr. Bernd Liepert, Jose Saenz, Francisco Javier Pérez Grau, Antonio M., Paolo Barattini, Aksel Transeth, for making this workshop and the in-depth discussions on the interplay between 6G and robotics a reality. Soft Robotics in Real-World Applications It was an honour to participate as a presenter and panellist at the workshop on "How to Bring Soft Robotics to Applications?" The discussions were insightful and linked very well to the EU project PALPABLE and the ERC Synergy project EndoTheranostics. I’m grateful to Florian Hartmann, Linda Paternò, and Gernot Kronreif for organizing such an enriching event. It was a pleasure to discuss the future of soft robotics with experts like Maria Elena Giannaccini, Alona Shagan Shomron, Hedan Bai, and Andrea Peirone. Bioinspired Robotics for Bridging Natural and Artificial Intelligence A huge thanks to Florian Röhrbein and the team for hosting the “Bioinspired Robotics” workshop. The discussions clearly showed that bioinspiration is truly at the heart of robotics innovation. I was excited to see that the workshop was so well linked to the STIFF-FLOP manipulator that came out of EU project STIFF-FLOP and the colonoscopy eversion robot, which is a key component of our ERC Synergy project EndoTheranostics. #ERF2025 had a very busy time taking part + organising various activities. ERF is proving to be a very productive forum with positive conversations, start of collaborations and progressive interactions year after year. Some highlights from my side to share 🧪 Co-organised workshop on 'Robotics in Pharma: from drug discovery to drug delivery' with Patrick Courtney, Karol Janik 🤝 Co-chaired workshop on 'How can European regions stimulate innovation in robotics?' with Iddo Bante 🤖 Panel participation in workshop on 'Mobile Manipulation of rigid and deformable objects: challenges and opportunities' chaired by Ashok, Marco, Florian T. 🏃♀️➡️ Charity 5K run 🏃♀️➡️ 🚇 Insightful site visits to FANUC Europe, NEURA Robotics, SCHUNK - Hand in hand for tomorrow, IPAI Lots of interactions with known friends + collaborators and new friends in Stuttgart. Pleased to have represented Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) along with Jenny Read and Paul Brown at ERF 2025, Stuttgart this year. Big stage at #ERF2025 last week! I was very happy to present in the main hall on “Benefits and Challenges of Physically Elastic Humanoids” at the inspiring workshop on “The New Frontiers of Advanced Humanoid and Legged Robots”. Recent advancements in humanoid robotics have introduced a new era of physically elastic designs, offering both unprecedented capabilities and unique challenges. Firstly I gave a brief introduction to the differences between physically elastic actuation, torque-sensor based actuation and quasi-direct drives. The presentation explored the innovative engineering behind compliant humanoid robots such as #neoDavid of #DLR, focusing on their elastic actuators and control systems. It addressed the practical applications and technical obstacles and provides insights into the future of humanoid robotics. euRobotics aisbl European #Robotics Forum (#ERF) will head north in 2026, as Stavanger kommune, #Norway has been announced as the next host city. The news follows this year’s edition in Stuttgart, Germany, where the handover took place. In this video Marco van der Hoeven discusses Stavanger and robotics with Gabor Sziebig from SINTEF Manufacturing.

This experimental modern music piece performed in Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle in Stuttgart is particularly interesting due to the many soloist and the dynamics ranging from pianissimo to fortissimo.
