Over the past two weeks Samsung Ads Australia have been thrilled to be a part of the 2025 IPG Mediabrands Partner Showcase in both Melbourne and Sydney. Our Data Strategy & Commercialisation Lead Alex Smith took part in a provocative panel session focused on Screens Planning to answer a series of questions about the screens landscape in 2025. It was a lively panel where some topical issues were discussed including what defines premium content, if terms like AVOD and SVOD still make sense, where social video fits on the screens plan and the relationship between content and platform. Today, the TV industry gathered at the Adwanted Events Future of TV Conference in Sydney, where Samsung Ads joined key industry leaders to discuss and debate some of the most pressing issues shaping the future of TV. From Guy Bisson, Ampere Analysis deep dive into the evolving nature of media business models, to Paramount Australia & New Zealand, Beverley McGarvey’s emphasis on the crucial role of local content, and Anthony Jones insights that brands could be spending three times too much on social - the conversations were insightful and thought-provoking. Mark McKee, FreeWheel also highlighted Australia’s innovative programmatic landscape, with 60%+ of video inventory flowing through programmatic pipes. Big discussions were held around 'premium video', how traditional competitors can collaborate, and whether reach without relevance is just “noise”, reminding us that not all impressions are created equal. However, equally important was the emphasis from both Jodi O'Donnell from TVNZ and Melissa Hey, GroupM Australia & New Zealand, to ground everything back to audiences and the need to focus on business outcomes. As the industry adapts to rapid changes, this shift in focus is key to ensuring that advertising dollars are not only spent efficiently, but also in a way that drives tangible results. As we reflect on a decade of Netflix in Australia, those within the industry are examining the impact the #SVOD service has had on television, streaming and advertising landscapes. One of the streaming giant's more interesting evolutions was its introduction of advertising supported tiers. While television broadcasters experienced a sharp decline in audience numbers and ad revenue, Netflix had doubled its ad revenue year-over year in 2024, and reported a 16% increase in revenue for the December quarter. As Alex Spurzem from Samsung Ads sees it, SVOD platforms like Netflix have recognised the value in advertising supporter tiers and are seeing the benefits firsthand.
