Brewing a better future, one insight at a time. Young people are growing up in a rapidly changing world, and that calls for bold, fresh thinking. Professor Tim Slade is helping uncover the hidden risks behind rising rates of mental ill-health and substance use, so we can step in before things reach crisis point. With more than 20 years of research behind him, Professor Slade is shifting the narrative toward early intervention, smart policy, and prevention that actually works. At MOOD, we’re all about prevention, too. Every sip of tea helps fund preventative mental health programs that equip young people with the tools to stay well, stay connected, and stay on track.
Trends in mental ill-health and substance use are changing with new environmental, economic and societal challenges arising domestically and internationally. To meet these challenges, we need new and innovative methods for preventing mental health and substance use issues before they arise. As part of the PREMISE Next Generation Centre of Research Excellence (CRE), Professor Tim Slade is among a series of Chief Investigators aiming to uncover new risks and use this information to increase prevention efforts with the ultimate aim of halting the rising prevalence of mental health issues. With more than 20 years of research expertise in mental health and substance use epidemiology, Professor Slade has centred his career around understanding the prevalence, distribution and causes of mental health and substance use disorders. By increasing our awareness of how common, how widespread and what causes mental health and substance disorders, we can learn better ways to manage and prevent cases before they arise. Professor Slade says that he’s looking forward to using the research outcomes to drive policy and practice reforms. “Adolescents are growing up in a rapidly changing world. We need to harness contemporary data sets to identify those modifiable factors that put kids at risk for mental health issues." "With this information we can build more effective prevention and early intervention programs and set adolescents on a course for optimal mental health.” Learn more about PREMISE Next Generation CRE: https://lnkd.in/ganHchsG
