Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) today awarded Diraq a Stage A contract in the Quantum Benchmarking Initiative (QBI). The QBI program seeks to determine whether it’s possible to build an industrially useful and commercially viable quantum computer much faster than conventional predictions. Stage A is the first step on the pathway to verification and validation of Diraq’s silicon spin qubit-based approach to achieving utility-scale operation. Diraq was delighted to host a number of delegations last week as part of a showcase of the NSW Quantum ecosystem - with a tour of UNSW, our lab and The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF). Thank you to all who supported and participated in this highly valuable visit. Hosted by Quantum Brilliance and QuEra Computing Inc. and supported by the Tech Council of Australia, this event brought together industry leaders including our own Andrew Dzurak, researchers, policymakers, technology providers to share insights during some great panel discussions, showcase solutions and profile various adoption approaches. We are excited to share that our quantum technology is shining a light on the search for dark matter. 🔦 In collaboration with Fermilab, America's leading particle physics and accelerator laboratory, we have been successfully awarded the Quandarum project. This project is a new initiative being spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. What makes this project so interesting is it focuses on exploring innovative approaches in quantum sensor technology to help fundamental science discoveries such as testing theories around dark matter-and our spin qubits are ideal for this gig! Our collaboration aims to develop an ultraprecise quantum sensor to study high-energy physics and potentially enable the detection of axions, hypothetical particles that some scientists believe make up dark matter. This research will probe theories to drive a greater understanding of how the Universe works. The research, led by Fermilab working alongside Diraq, will focus on creating a system based on the integration of two specialised technologies - Diraq’s patented silicon spin qubits will be combined on a chip with Fermilab’s cryogenic “skipper” analog-to-digital converter circuits used for readout in dark-matter detectors. The project team also includes the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Chicago, and Manchester University. The future of hybrid QC/HPC is accelerating - FAST! We are thrilled to be part of NVIDIA DGX Quantum Early Customer Program, teaming up with two of our most trusted partners Quantum Machines and NVIDIA, to support the first tightly integrated quantum-classical computing solution. Known as NVIDIA DGX Quantum, this innovation in reference architecture is designed to unlock new frontiers in quantum computing research and development. Our Head of Solid-State Theory, Professor Andre Saraiva commented, "We are really excited about the acceleration advancements this QC/HPC integration solution will enable. With fast feedforward and turnkey integration to existing HPC compute, Diraq will be ready to quickly ramp up our qubit counts and error handling systems, advancing the path toward practical quantum supercomputers."
