As one of the partners of ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program’s SRMI, International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is pleased to share that the tendering course provided by SRMI partners as part of the capacity building support last October has resulted in a tangible action by #BurkinaFaso. The Ministry of Energy, Mines, and Quarries of Burkina Faso is now launching a tender for the first phase of the regional solar parks; a 75 MWp solar park in Konean and a 45 MWp solar park in Kouritenga. This is a significant step to scale up the country’s #renewableenergy deployment. Qualification submission closes by 26 May 2025: https://lnkd.in/eVcekFdM
Last year, SRMI partners— GET.transform, ESMAP - Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (World Bank), and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)— in partnership with the POWER FUTURES LAB, kicked off the Policy Catalyst: Effective Renewable Energy Tendering Window to help 12 Sub-Saharan African countries attract private investment and fast-track the next wave of #renewableenergy projects. Through expert-led lectures, peer learning, and tailored country action plans, participants aren’t just learning. They’re shaping real-world solutions for Africa's energy future. The first in-person training wrapped in November 2024 at the University of Cape Town, and the impact is already showing! Hear directly from the participants about what they took away from this game-changing experience. @Fred Bailey (Pr. #DYK? Achieving the global goal to #3xRenewables by 2030 requires massive investments, yet financing remains deeply unequal. While capital flows heavily into a few major markets, underserved communities in the #GlobalSouth struggle to access the resources needed to scale up #renewableenergy deployment. Bridging this gap is not just about climate action—it’s about ensuring sustainable development, energy security, and economic opportunities for all. https://lnkd.in/gv-cArTX Stay tuned for the upcoming episode of The IRENA Podcast as we explore how international collaboration, policy innovation, and financial mechanisms can drive a more equitable mobilisation of funds.

#Renewable power investments in #Africa declined by almost half between 2022 and 2023, highlighting a growing disparity in the global energy transition. While 84% of investments were concentrated in #China, the #EU, and the #US, many regions with immense renewable potential continue to face financial barriers. Strengthening international collaboration, mobilizing development finance, and creating enabling policies will be key to channeling funds in emerging markets. The world cannot afford to leave anyone behind. Learn more about the alarming disparities: bit.ly/3UuUgR5

Despite record-breaking growth in #renewableenergy, the transition remains deeply uneven. The #GlobalSouth, home to immense renewable potential and growing energy demand, receives only 10% of global investments. This disparity threatens progress toward a just and inclusive #energytransition. To bridge the gap, stronger international collaboration is needed—leveraging development finance, multilateral cooperation, and targeted policies to unlock investments where they are needed most. International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) calls for urgent action. Explore the latest insights in our report: bit.ly/43wt1eh
