The Data lake hidden in your backups - Big Data Expo 2019webwinkelvakdag
Data warehouse projects have an alarmingly high failure rate – leading analysts estimate anywhere from 50% to 64% over the last 15 years. These projects don’t fail from a lack of good tools in the market. They fail because of the time, expense, and complexity of centralizing, storing, updating, and transforming enterprise data so that it can be unlocked for other uses.
But what if you had already built a data lake covering all of your production workloads, with data stretching back for months or years and updated daily? What if this data lake was accessible, easily portable, and available for analysis using any set of tools? And what if the expense and staffing to create and maintain this data lake was already part of your budget and had been for years?
Your organization’s backup data represents exactly this resource. We all have backups to recover from outages, human error, malware, and disasters. But imagine you could take advantage of your backup data in order to:
Analyze historical data sets with no impact on production workloads
Migrate workloads into the cloud to take advantage of cloud-based analytics resources
Fully automate DevOps processes using daily backup data
Perform ransomware and compliancy checks and audits
Comply with GDPR data subject access requests (DSAR’s)
And numerous other use cases…

I had limited resources as a college student, including card, pens, pins, and access to a camera on a tripod. These constraints informed my choice to create a simple stop-motion animation of a snake game, which could be made with the materials available. I created different lengths of snakes out of green card and attached them to the wall to remain stationary for photography. Time limits from only having study periods to work restricted me to an hour to make the snakes and take pictures, resulting in some blurry photos from rushing to complete the project.

Data Caching Evolution - the SafePeak deck from webcast 2014-04-24Vladi Vexler
This document discusses data caching and its evolution. It covers reasons for application caching like improving response times and offloading load from databases. It describes the evolution from do-it-yourself local and distributed caching using key-value stores, to automated dynamic caching solutions. Automated dynamic caching solutions cache query results, ensure data is never stale through real-time invalidation, and provide efficient cache management to keep hot data in memory. These solutions require minimal configuration and automatically recognize query patterns and cache dependencies.
This document provides instructions for configuring SafePeak Technologies' caching software. It outlines several key configuration steps:
1. Eliminate all "Cache=Disable" events by configuring dynamic objects and ignoring certain SQL commands that would otherwise disable caching.
2. Optimize inactive and non-cacheable SQL patterns by reviewing them and modifying their settings if possible to enable caching.
3. Use configuration tools like the SafePeak dashboard to review analytics on SQL traffic and caching performance, identify optimization opportunities, and configure caching rules for SQL patterns.
The overall process involves running application traffic through SafePeak, analyzing the results to identify patterns for optimization, configuring caching settings, and repeating in iterative cycles until desired performance

fennec fox optimization algorithm for optimal solutionshallal2
Imagine you have a group of fennec foxes searching for the best spot to find food (the optimal solution to a problem). Each fox represents a possible solution and carries a unique "strategy" (set of parameters) to find food. These strategies are organized in a table (matrix X), where each row is a fox, and each column is a parameter they adjust, like digging depth or speed.

Slack like a pro: strategies for 10x engineering teamsNacho Cougil
You know Slack, right? It's that tool that some of us have known for the amount of "noise" it generates per second (and that many of us mute as soon as we install it 😅).
But, do you really know it? Do you know how to use it to get the most out of it? Are you sure 🤔? Are you tired of the amount of messages you have to reply to? Are you worried about the hundred conversations you have open? Or are you unaware of changes in projects relevant to your team? Would you like to automate tasks but don't know how to do so?
In this session, I'll try to share how using Slack can help you to be more productive, not only for you but for your colleagues and how that can help you to be much more efficient... and live more relaxed 😉.
If you thought that our work was based (only) on writing code, ... I'm sorry to tell you, but the truth is that it's not 😅. What's more, in the fast-paced world we live in, where so many things change at an accelerated speed, communication is key, and if you use Slack, you should learn to make the most of it.

Hybridize Functions: A Tool for Automatically Refactoring Imperative Deep Lea...Raffi Khatchadourian
Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code—supporting symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged but at the expense of run-time performance. Though hybrid approaches aim for the “best of both worlds,” using them effectively requires subtle considerations to make code amenable to safe, accurate, and efficient graph execution—avoiding performance bottlenecks and semantically inequivalent results. We discuss the engineering aspects of a refactoring tool that automatically determines when it is safe and potentially advantageous to migrate imperative DL code to graph execution and vice-versa.
