Tracxn Research — Business Intelligence Landscape, September 2016Tracxn
Tracxn's Business Intelligence 2016 report covers companies that develop and provide Business Intelligence (BI) & Analytics software. It also covers prominent industry specific BI solutions.
The document provides an introduction to Microsoft Business Intelligence (MSBI). It discusses how MSBI addresses the needs of users by integrating data across networks, providing summarized and historical data to help understand organizational health, and enabling 'what-if' analysis. It describes the MSBI architecture and how it uses SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Analysis Services, and SQL Server Reporting Services to move data between sources and destinations, perform online analytical processing to build cubes for analysis, and deliver reports, respectively. The document also compares MSBI to other BI tools and argues it provides the most reliable solution at the lowest total cost.
The document describes an OLTP database created for a construction company to store ongoing and closed project data in third normal form. An ETL process was developed using SSIS to load data from Excel spreadsheets and XML files into the database tables. This ETL package was combined with database backup, shrink, and index rebuild processes into a single job scheduled to run regularly via SQL Server Agent. The document includes diagrams and details of the database structure and various SSIS packages developed for the ETL load processes.
The document outlines 10 trends in business intelligence for 2015: 1) Governance will transform to support self-service analytics while maintaining processes; 2) Analyzing social data will provide competitive advantages; 3) Analytics will be used across organizations by various roles; 4) Product communities will differentiate vendors; 5) Integrations will rapidly connect diverse data sources; 6) Cloud analytics will be used for on-premise data; 7) Interactive data will enable conversations over static dashboards; 8) Data and journalism will further merge; 9) Mature mobile solutions will support analytics anywhere; 10) Intuitive modeling will bring predictive analytics to business users.
The control flow manages the execution of tasks and containers in an SSIS package. It contains control flow tasks, containers, and precedence constraints. There are three primary control flow objects - tasks that perform jobs, containers that group tasks and containers, and constraints that define execution order. A control flow task performs operations like sending emails or copying files, and completes as succeeded or failed.
The document provides an overview of Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). It discusses SSRS architecture and components. It outlines new features in SSRS 2008 related to report authoring, processing, rendering, server architecture, and programmability. Steps for creating a shared data source and designing basic reports using the report designer are also presented.

These strategies are organized in a table (matrix X), where each row is a fox, and each column is a parameter they adjust, like digging depth or speed.
AI-proof your career by Olivier Vroom and David WIlliamsonUXPA Boston
This talk explores the evolving role of AI in UX design and the ongoing debate about whether AI might replace UX professionals. The discussion will explore how AI is shaping workflows, where human skills remain essential, and how designers can adapt. Attendees will gain insights into the ways AI can enhance creativity, streamline processes, and create new challenges for UX professionals.
AI’s influence on UX is growing, from automating research analysis to generating design prototypes. While some believe AI could make most workers (including designers) obsolete, AI can also be seen as an enhancement rather than a replacement. This session, featuring two speakers, will examine both perspectives and provide practical ideas for integrating AI into design workflows, developing AI literacy, and staying adaptable as the field continues to change.
The session will include a relatively long guided Q&A and discussion section, encouraging attendees to philosophize, share reflections, and explore open-ended questions about AI’s long-term impact on the UX profession.
Crazy Incentives and How They Kill Security. How Do You Turn the Wheel?Christian Folini
Everybody is driven by incentives. Good incentives persuade us to do the right thing and patch our servers. Bad incentives make us eat unhealthy food and follow stupid security practices.
There is a huge resource problem in IT, especially in the IT security industry. Therefore, you would expect people to pay attention to the existing incentives and the ones they create with their budget allocation, their awareness training, their security reports, etc.
But reality paints a different picture: Bad incentives all around! We see insane security practices eating valuable time and online training annoying corporate users.
But it's even worse. I've come across incentives that lure companies into creating bad products, and I've seen companies create products that incentivize their customers to waste their time.
It takes people like you and me to say "NO" and stand up for real security!

DevOpsDays SLC - Platform Engineers are Product Managers.pptxJustin Reock
Platform Engineers are Product Managers: 10x Your Developer Experience
Discover how adopting this mindset can transform your platform engineering efforts into a high-impact, developer-centric initiative that empowers your teams and drives organizational success.
Platform engineering has emerged as a critical function that serves as the backbone for engineering teams, providing the tools and capabilities necessary to accelerate delivery. But to truly maximize their impact, platform engineers should embrace a product management mindset. When thinking like product managers, platform engineers better understand their internal customers' needs, prioritize features, and deliver a seamless developer experience that can 10x an engineering team’s productivity.
In this session, Justin Reock, Deputy CTO at DX (getdx.com), will demonstrate that platform engineers are, in fact, product managers for their internal developer customers. By treating the platform as an internally delivered product, and holding it to the same standard and rollout as any product, teams significantly accelerate the successful adoption of developer experience and platform engineering initiatives.
Challenges in Migrating Imperative Deep Learning Programs to Graph Execution:...Raffi Khatchadourian
Efficiency is essential to support responsiveness w.r.t. ever-growing datasets, especially for Deep Learning (DL) systems. DL frameworks have traditionally embraced deferred execution-style DL code that supports symbolic, graph-based Deep Neural Network (DNN) computation. While scalable, such development tends to produce DL code that is error-prone, non-intuitive, and difficult to debug. Consequently, more natural, less error-prone imperative DL frameworks encouraging eager execution have emerged at the expense of run-time performance. While hybrid approaches aim for the "best of both worlds," the challenges in applying them in the real world are largely unknown. We conduct a data-driven analysis of challenges---and resultant bugs---involved in writing reliable yet performant imperative DL code by studying 250 open-source projects, consisting of 19.7 MLOC, along with 470 and 446 manually examined code patches and bug reports, respectively. The results indicate that hybridization: (i) is prone to API misuse, (ii) can result in performance degradation---the opposite of its intention, and (iii) has limited application due to execution mode incompatibility. We put forth several recommendations, best practices, and anti-patterns for effectively hybridizing imperative DL code, potentially benefiting DL practitioners, API designers, tool developers, and educators.
