This document presents a project to control the speed of an induction motor using a variable frequency/variable voltage (V/F) method. The project team includes 6 members and is guided by Arun Kumar. The system uses a microcontroller to provide easy control over and adjustable speed capability for the induction motor. It consists of electronic components, a microcontroller, and an LCD display. The motor speed can be selected and adjusted to user-defined speeds under various load conditions, with the V/F ratio maintained constant to keep the air gap flux stable. Experimental results showing motor speed at different voltages, frequencies and loads are presented in a table.

control (DTC) is commonly used method in high performance control method for induction motors. Despite
mentioned advantages, there are some chronically disadvantages with this method like high torque and
current ripples, variable switching behaviour and control problems at low speed rates. On the other hand,
artificial neural network (ANN) based control algorithms are getting increasingly popular in recent years
due to their positive contribution to the system performance. The purpose of this paper is investigating of
the effects of ANN integrated DTC method on induction motor performance by numerical simulations. For
this purpose, two different ANN models have been designed, trained and implemented for the same DTC
model. The first ANN model was designed to select optimum inverter and the second model was designed to
use in the determination of the flux vector position. Matlab/Simulink model of the proposed ANN based
DTC method was created in order to compare with the conventional DTC and the proposed DTC methods.
The simulation studies proved that the induction motor torque ripples have been reduced remarkably with
the proposed method and this approach can be a good alternative to the conventional DTC method for
induction motor control.

An open-loop inverter-three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor drive system that provides constant maximum torque or increased maximum torque and reduced slip speed at frequencies below the nominal frequency has been modeled, simulated and tested. Load performance analysis of the proposed system under different operation conditions was provided. These principles of operation are extended to the case of operation from variable frequency or variable voltage control method. Finally, the effects of the non-sinusoidal voltage and/or current wave shapes are covered. An open-loop inverter-three-phase squirrel-cage induction motor drive system that provides constant maximum torque or increased maximum torque and reduced slip speed at frequencies below the nominal frequency has been modeled, simulated and tested. Load performance analysis of the proposed system under different operation conditions was provided. These principles of operation are extended to the case of operation from variable frequency or variable voltage control method. Finally, the effects of the non-sinusoidal voltage and/or current wave shapes are covered. The results show that both suggested improvement techniques (constant torque or constant flux) improve the steady-state performance A.C. drive system with squirrel cage induction motors. The slip speed has been decreased and the starting torque and maximum torque have been increased, which means that the suggested control techniques can be used in drive systems with short time operating mode under light loads.

1.1 PROTECTION SCHEME OF INDUCTION MOTOR
Classical monitoring techniques for three-phase IMs are generally provided by some combination of mechanical and electrical monitoring equipment. Mechanical forms of motor sensing are also limited in ability to detect electrical faults, such as stator insulation failures. In addition, the mechanical parts of the equipment can cause problems in the course of operation and can reduce the life and efficiency of a system.
It is well known that IM monitoring has been studied by many researchers and reviewed in a number of works. Reviews about various stator faults and their causes, and detection techniques, latest trends, and diagnosis methods supported by the artificial intelligence, the microprocessor, the computer and other techniques in monitoring unbalanced voltage inter turn faults, stator winding temperature and microcontroller based digital protectors have been recently studied subjects. In these, while one or two variables were considered together to protect the IMs, the variables of the motor were not considered altogether. Measurements of the voltages, currents, temperatures, and speed were achieved and transferred to the computer for final protection decision.
A programmable integrated circuit (PIC) based protection system has been introduced using Microprocessors and the solutions of various faults of the phase currents, the phase voltages, the speed, and the winding temperatures of an IM occurring in operation have been achieved with the help of the microcontroller, but these electrical parameters have not been displayed on a screen.
Nowadays, the most widely used area of programmable logic controller (PLC) is the control circuits of industrial automation systems. simplicity, the V/F control also called as the scalar control, is the most widely used speed control method in the industrial
applications. In this method the ratio between stator voltage to frequency is maintained constant so that the stator flux is
maintained constant. As the stator flux is maintained constant, the torque developed by the motor depends only on the slip speed
and is independent of the supply frequency. Thus we can control the speed and torque of induction motor by simply controlling the
slip speed of induction motor. The complete control is achieved with the help of TMS320F28027 Development Board. One of the
basic requirements of this scheme is the PWM inverter. The gating signals are generated using sine wave PWM technique.
Implementation issues such as PWM signal generation, ramp control, v/f control, inverter design are discussed. The results are
discussed based on the various waveforms.

H infinity based speed controller with particle swarm optimized weights for a sensorless BLDC motor which is used as electrical thruster has been simulated in MATLAB/ SIMULINK and implemented using TI C2000 Delfino LaunchPad LaunchXL-F28377S and BoostXL DRV 8301. A performance comparison in reference tracking has been done with conventional PI controller and experimental results have been discussed in detail. The percentage variation in speed with respect to reference speed of proposed strategy has been observed to be 0.65% whereas it is 1.1% with PI controller. It has also been found that the proposed control strategy exhibits smooth starting with better reference tracking and less torque ripples.

Performance evaluation of a hybrid fuzzy logic controller based on genetic al...International Journal of Power Electronics and Drive Systems It is known that controlling the speed of a three phase Induction Motor (IM) under different operating conditions is an important task and this can be accomplished through the process of controlling the applied voltage on its stator circuit. Conventional Proportional- Integral- Differeantional (PID) controller takes long time in selecting the error signal gain values. In this paper a hybrid Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) with Genetic Algorithm (GA) is proposed to reduce the selected time for the optimized error signal gain values and as a result inhances the controller and system performance. The proposed controller FL with GA is designed, modeled and simulated using MATLAB/ software under different load torque motor operating condition. The simulation result shows that the closed loop system performance efficiency under the controller has a maximum value of 95.92%. In terms of efficiency and at reference speed signal of 146.53 rad/sec, this system performance shows an inhancement of 0.67%,0.49% and 0.05% with respect to the closed loop system efficiency performance of the PID, FL, and PID with GA controllers respectively. Also the simulation result of the well designed and efficient GA in speeding up the process of selecting the gain values, makes the system to have an efficiency improvement of 14.42% with respect to the open loop system performance.

Experimental results show that the V/F control method maintains a constant voltage-to-frequency ratio to provide stable speed control of the induction motor from 5% to 100% of its base speed range. Paper id 24201493IJRAT This document compares the performance of indirect vector control of an induction motor using proportional-integral (PI) and proportional-integral-derivative (PID) speed controllers. It first provides background on induction motors, vector control techniques, and PI/PID controllers. It then presents the simulation model and results, which show the PID controller provides better speed response characteristics like shorter settling time. In conclusion, the PID controller improves the speed performance for indirect vector control of an induction motor drive.

torque response. Induction motors (IM) are simple in construction and are less sensitive to the motor parameters compared to
other vector control methods. The conventional DTC is based on flux and torque hysteresis controllers. Induction motor is fed
from a Four Switch Inverter generating the voltage vectors of the Six Switch Inverter by reconfiguration. Applying the most
optimized voltage vector that produce fastest dynamic torque response during transient states. Fuzzy logic concept is a most
efficient artificial integilence method which has high application in electric motor drives. A method to achieve fastest dynamic
performance by modifying the two leg inverter fed DTC of induction motor based on Fuzzy Logic Concept is used here. This paper
presents a rule-based fuzzy logic controller scheme designed and applied for the speed control of an induction motor fed from a
four switch three phase inverter emulating the six switch three phase inverter. Due to the usage of the Fuzzy logic concept, the
reliability, efficiency and performance of ac drive increases. Initial torque peak and torque ripple are minimized in the four switch
three phase inverter based DTC using Fuzzy Logic.

A PI controller controls torque and a PID controller controls speed. The effect of the controllers and different inputs were analyzed. With both controllers, the system became stable, while it was unstable with no controllers. Step, ramp, and sine wave inputs all stabilized. Key parameters like peak time, rise time, and settling time were calculated from the output.

It develops a non-linear induction motor model that accounts for errors in flux estimation. FOC is used to decouple the current components for flux generation and torque generation. Clarke and Park transformations are applied to control the d-q axis currents for flux and torque regulation using PI controllers. Simulations show the motor speed closely follows the reference speed even under load, maintaining stability. The stator current and electromagnetic torque responses indicate the control system effectively regulates load current and torque.

The replacement of the existing non-adjustable speed drives with the modern variable frequency drives would save considerable amount of electricity. A proper control scheme for variable frequency drives can enhance the efficiency and performance of the drive. This paper attempt to provide a rigorous review of various control schemes for the induction motor control and provides critical analysis and guidelines for the future research work. A detailed study of sensor based control schemes and sensor-less control schemes has been investigated. The operation, advantages, and limitations of the various control schemes are highlighted and different types of optimization techniques have been suggested to overcome the limitations of control techniques.

So the precise speed control of a DC motor is very crucial in industry. In this case microcontrollers play a vital role for the flexible control of DC motors. This current research work investigates the implementation of an ATmega8L microcontroller for the speed control of DC motor fed by a DC chopper. The chopper is driven by a high frequency PWM signal. Controlling the PWM duty cycle is equivalent to controlling the motor terminal voltage, which in turn adjusts directly the motor speed. H-bridge circuit is implemented for the bi-directional control of the motor. A prototype of permanent magnet DC motor speed control system using the microcontroller is developed and tested.

- 2. Induction motors are widely used ac motors in industrial area. Advanced semi conductor technology and uses of microcontroller have made the speed control of induction motor easier. The proposed paper presents variable speed control application of induction motor using vf method. In this system, the speed of induction motor can be adjusted to user defined speed. Microcontrollers can provide easy control over induction motor. Microcontroller based speed control system consist of electronic component, microcontroller and the LCD. The system is tested and experimental results are recorded for variable speed under various load conditions.
