Saving Files Website Structure
Before we save our new page, lets talk a little bit about the structure of a website. This is very
important to learn. So many people don’t pay attention to this, and when they upload their
files to the web and open their pages, all images are missing, and they just see empty boxes
where their images were supposed to be.

Keep these points in mind:

1. All files (pages and content) should be saved in the same folder in your
computer
2. Use different folders for each website
3. The main page or home page of your website is usually called index.htm
or index.html. Either will work fine.

Select from the main menu File > Save. A new window will open asking you where you
want to save the file and the name you want to give it to it.

In our sample, we’ll save it under My Documents and create a new folder called Websites

If you open your Wiindows Explorer and navigate to the new folder, you will see your new
file named index.html.

Now that we have the structure in place and our blank page titled index.html, in the next

Publishing NOTE - Possible errors and how to solve them:

Images Let’s start now to make our page more presentable.

Fonts
When selecting fonts, we must stick to what’s called ‘web safe fonts’. These fonts are fonts
that are standard and available in any computers nowadays. Using these fonts will ensure
your webpage displays as you intended it to be; at least, as close as possible.

If you chose non web save fonts and someone doesn’t have that fancy font installed on their
computer, your font will be replaced with one of the standard web fonts and your layout will
look weird. This is why it’s very important to stick to web safe fonts.

Images Even though you can resize an image using the handles, it is recommended that you
have the images at the exact dimension before placing them in your web page.

The reason is because, even though you resize the image and make it smaller, the
image will still be loading at the actual size and then the browswer will resize it to your
specification; so the file size will still be the same, not smaller.

Notice that now your image is also listed on the left panel, under Site Manager.

It is good to get into the habit of constantly saving your changes. You don’t want to loose all
your hard work and have
