ALCOHOL DETECTION SYSTEM USING GSM TECHNOLOGY

This project is designed by keeping in mind the accidental death caused on the roads because of the consumption of alcohol by the driver. The whole system can be employed in any steering wheel equipped motor vehicle. The system which is made as compact as possible senses the alcohol molecules present in a specific range and if found, fails the attempt of the driver to start the engine. Pushing the envelope and considering the actuality of the situation where the driver may not be able to drive, the system is interfaced with the widely used GSM technology to establish a quick cellular contact with the closest kin or with the law enforcers.

- 3. ABSTRACT This project is designed by keeping in mind the accidental death caused on the roads because of the consumption of alcohol by the driver. The whole system can be employed in any steering wheel equipped motor vehicle. The system which is made as compact as possible, senses the alcohol molecules present in a specific range and if found, fails the attempt of the driver to start the engine. Pushing the envelope and considering the actuality of the situation where the driver may not be able to drive, the system is interfaced with the widely used GSM technology to establish a quick cellular contact with the closest kin or with the law enforcers.
- 4. INTRODUCTION According to TOI survey 34% of the accidental deaths take place on the road because of the reckless driving of the driver after consumption of the alcohol. Furthermore, the leniency of the law enforcers increased the rate to 42% in the following year. Keeping in mind the substandard condition of the Indian roads and the accidental death rate due to alcohol consumption, a system needed to be designed which fails the attempt of the driver to initiate the engine. The system designed is used as a breath analyzer as well as to sense the alcohol molecules in the range.
- 6. Explanation of Block diagram:- ALCOHOL SENSOR:- Alcohol sensor is the sensor that measures the amount of alcohol that is present in surrounding environment. There are contact and non-contact type of sensors. As the output signal of sensor is smaller in amplitude the signal power is also low therefore amplifiers are used. The weak signals are amplified using amplifiers. MICRO-CONTROLLER (8051):- It is the major part of the system. It maintains the temperature, humidity and light intensity to the desired value. The 8051 has one serial port that receives and transmits data. Transmission and reception can take place simultaneously. The four communication modes possible with 8051 present the system designer and programmer with opportunities to conduct very sophisticated data communication network. It is the heart of the system which controls all the inputs and the controlling action to be taken at the output. Microcontroller used here is the AT89S51.

LCD DISPLAY:- Liquid Crystal Display which is commonly known as LCD is an Alphanumeric Display it means that it can display Alphabets, Numbers as well as special symbols thus LCD is a user friendly Display device which can be used for displaying various messages unlike seven segment display which can display only numbers and some of the alphabets. The only disadvantage of LCD over seven segment is that seven segment is robust display and be visualized from a longer distance as compared to LCD. Here we have used 16 x 2 Alphanumeric Display which means on this display we can display two lines with maximum of 16 characters in one line. BUZZER: Buzzer is a audio signal device Works on electromechanically or piezoelectric Circuit. Buzzer gives the signal that the motor vehicle has started ,the vibration of metal plate causes a sound.
- 8. GSM(SIM300) MODULE :- It can accept commands from microcontroller UART. Works on power supply. Speaker and Microphone Jacks onboard for voice. Onboard PCB antenna. Small size . It Can do basic functions which can be done via normal phone like calling, send messages. Plug and play device,serial port and debug port can help user easily develop user’s applications.

Applications 1) “Alcohol Detector project” can be used in the various vehicles for detecting whether the driver has consumed alcohol or not. 2) This project can also be used in various companies or organization to detect alcohol consumption of employees. Advantages of Alcohol Detector project: 3) “Alcohol Detection System in Cars” provides an automatic safety system for cars and other vehicles as well. 4) Global Positioning System(GPS) can be used to obtain the specific location of the driver, making it easy for the correspondents to track the vehicle as GPS is even accessible by the smartphones.
- 10. CONCLUSION The technology can immensely decrease the rate of drunken driving cases which often leads to accidental deaths. By capitalizing on recent technological advancements that will not let the car to be driven if the driver has drunk the alcohol.
