Learning Terraform While Building a Reference Repository of Code ExamplesTomasz Tarczyński At Container Solutions we’ve recently started a project to provide a reference repository of Terraform code examples. The goal of this project is to help engineers save time when starting to work with Terraform or implementing something new in a hurry. The examples there aim to be as-simple-as-possible demonstrations of Terraform functionality and features that could be easily copied to get a starting point for IaC automation.
This talk will be a short story of an engineer who needed to learn Terraform and cloud, and then managed to do so by contributing to the terraform-examples project. It will also show how the project grows as more engineers are following a similar path.
An interesting observation is that while the initial goal was to help Terraform users by offering examples, it ended up being also a great learning device for people new to it.

In my session, I will show you some best practices I have discovered over the last 7 years in building data streaming applications including IoT, CDC, Logs, and more.
In my modern approach, we utilize several open-source frameworks to maximize the best features of all. We often start with Apache NiFi as the orchestrator of streams flowing into Apache Pulsar and/or Apache Kafka. From there we build streaming ETL with Apache Spark and enhance events with serverless functions for ML and enrichment. We build continuous queries against our topics with Flink SQL. We will stream data into Iceberg and other data stores.

In my modern approach, we utilize several open-source frameworks to maximize the best features of all. We often start with Apache NiFi as the orchestrator of streams flowing into Apache Pulsar and/or Apache Kafka. From there we build streaming ETL with Apache Spark and enhance events with serverless functions for ML and enrichment. We build continuous queries against our topics with Flink SQL. We will stream data into Iceberg and other data stores.

One effective security model that has gained popularity is Zero Trust Networking, which assumes that all resources, devices and users are untrusted, and access to resources is granted only after proper authentication and authorization. However, implementing Zero Trust Networking in Kubernetes can be challenging, given the dynamic nature of containerized workloads and the complexity of network policies.
In this presentation, we will explore how to implement Zero Trust Networking in Kubernetes using Cilium, Hubble & Grafana. We will start by setting up Cilium on a Kubernetes cluster, which provides network security by enforcing identity-based access control policies using eBPF. Next, we will export Network Policy Verdict metrics using Hubble, which allows us to visualize network policies and track security events in real-time. Finally, we will use a Grafana dashboard to visualize these metrics and demonstrate how to secure a Kubernetes namespace without affecting existing traffic in the namespace.
By the end of this presentation, attendees will have a good understanding of the importance of Zero Trust Networking in Kubernetes and how to implement it using Cilium, Hubble & Grafana. They will also learn how to secure a Kubernetes namespace and monitor network policies using a Grafana dashboard.

In many areas it already seems that AI is in charge, from choosing drivers for a ride, to choosing targets for rocket attacks. None are without a level of human oversight: in some cases the overarching rules are set by humans, in others humans rubber-stamp opaque outcomes of unfathomable systems. Can we design ways for humans and AI to work together that retain essential human autonomy and responsibility, whilst also allowing AI to work to its full potential? These choices are critical as AI is increasingly part of life or death decisions, from diagnosis in healthcare ro autonomous vehicles on highways, furthermore issues of bias and privacy challenge the fairness of society overall and personal sovereignty of our own data. This talk will build on long-term work on AI & HCI and more recent work funded by EU TANGO and SoBigData++ projects. It will discuss some of the ways HCI can help create situations where humans can work effectively alongside AI, and also where AI might help designers create more effective HCI.
