How can transit agencies successfully manage transportation for large-scale events? Recent discussions at UITP's PT & Large Events Workshop with DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) provided valuable insights into best practices for ensuring seamless mobility during major gatherings from international peers at Ile-De-France Mobilités, Transport for London, RATPgroup, and Keolis Group. Here are five key takeaways: 1️⃣ Plan for Flexibility – Large events often come with unpredictable variables, such as shifting crowd patterns, last-minute venue changes, or unforeseen delays. Agencies should develop scenario-based plans and be prepared to pivot as conditions evolve. 2️⃣ Balance Regular and Event Demand – Ensuring that daily commuters and event attendees can coexist without disruptions is crucial. Strategies such as managing background travel demand and adjusting service schedules can help maintain smooth operations for all riders . 3️⃣ Enhance Rider Communication – Proactive, clear, and multilingual communication (including pictograms!) is essential for both event attendees and regular passengers. Agencies should leverage digital dashboards, mobile apps, and real-time updates to inform travelers about service changes and best routes. 4️⃣ Prioritize Safety and Crowd Management – With high pedestrian traffic, agencies need to deploy strategies like staggered arrivals, designated fan meeting points, and visible safety personnel to mitigate risks and enhance passenger experience. 5️⃣ Collaborate with Stakeholders – Coordination with event organizers, law enforcement, ride-share services, and local businesses is key to a comprehensive transit strategy. This collaboration ensures smoother crowd flows and better emergency response capabilities.

StreetLight study found delays at least doubled at most of the 23 stadiums where Swift performed — but there were some notable outliers. At one venue, traffic actually improved. NJ’s MetLife Stadium was the real standout. VHD actually decreased during the concerts, by 27% on average over the course of the three nights. The secret sauce is NJ TRANSIT 🎉 https://lnkd.in/gmpky3mr
