  • As India works toward its goal of net-zero #emissions by 2070, cutting carbon emissions from transportation will be crucial. To do so will require exploring cleaner fuel options. #Hydrogen stands out as a strong potential alternative due to its clean fuel reputation and high energy efficiency. Hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine (H2 ICE) and fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) emit only water and air from the vehicle tailpipe. However, challenges like high production costs, infrastructure gaps, and regulatory hurdles must be addressed for hydrogen to become a mainstream fuel for #India’s trucking segment. https://okt.to/S2P1Rm

  • #Hyundai’s investment in the US includes an amount being spent by affiliate Hyundai Steel, which will build an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel mill in Louisiana. Capable of producing 2.7 million tons of steel annually, including low-carbon steel sheets from locally available steel scrap, it has said that is being built with “the aim of enhancing the Group’s agility and flexibility in response to external uncertainties.” This may help HMG increase the amount of US-sourced steel it uses and reduce its exposure to the 25% tariff on steel imported into the US from any country. https://okt.to/rHMhJ5 #automotiveindustry #automotivenews

  • The European #autonomous vehicle testing landscape features a blend of common and distinct regulatory strategies. OEMs must comply with the EU-level regulatory framework that is applicable in the EU in terms of vehicle regulations and road safety such as the type approval framework, General Safety Regulation 2 (GSR-2), and other legislation related to the deployment of ITS and privacy and data protection as well as national-level testing #regulations in force in European member states. In #Europe, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have already secured EU approval in compliance with the ALKS regulation. Stellantis is in the process of obtaining it. This is a mandatory requirement for deploying Level 3 autonomous vehicles in Europe. In Europe, the Level 3 option is sold only in Germany. https://okt.to/uJAx27

  • The scope and size of President Trump's new #tariffs exceeded most expectations. He announced that his administration will impose a universal 10% tariff rate on all imports from all US trading partners beginning April 5. In addition, the 60 "worst offenders" (according to the administration), which are countries deemed to have onerous trade barriers (tariff and non-tariff) to their markets, will have their own (higher) reciprocal tariff rates added to current rates starting on April 9. S&P Global is analyzing the impact from all angles—economic, energy & commodities, #trade & supply chain, #automotive and more.
