H. Leo K., Sr. Technical Program Manager and United States Veteran, joins the #LifeatPinterest team to share how he pivoted his career into the tech industry, reflections on valuable skills learned in the Air Force and his thoughts on returning as a Global Lead for the Vets@ Pinclusion Group. “As a veteran, I've acquired several skills that have contributed to my role as a Technical Program Manager. Firstly, leadership and team management were paramount in the military. For example, in one of my roles in the Air Force, I built and led a 15-person cross-functional team from seven distinct career fields to provide multi-faceted support for 18 construction projects. Experiences like these help to align on goals and execute large-scale programs at Pinterest.” Read Leo’s story here: https://lnkd.in/e7t58W8h

In March, we welcomed Professor Michael Ekstrand to speak at our Pinterest Labs Talk Series event. With so much positive feedback from our team, we asked Machine Learning Engineer II, Xumei Xi to share her thoughts on the event. Here's what Xumei said: "I gained significant insights from Professor Ekstrand about the historical context, past research efforts, and different methodologies involved in algorithmic fairness in terms of different degrees of information access. These insights broadened my perspective on this subject, giving me a more nuanced understanding of the challenges and solutions associated with algorithmic fairness in recommender systems." Work with your recruiter to make sure you have the proper resources. 📌 Concise communication is key.
