Asset management plays a vital role in creating safer, stronger communities. Michelle Bennett, AICP, Ann Arbor city planner, used the Asset Management Champions program to gain valuable tools for connecting long-term planning with infrastructure improvements, ensuring projects meet community needs. Efforts like adding bike lanes to make school routes safer or improving water systems show how asset management creates lasting impacts for residents. Allen Park City Administrator Tom Murray is taking what he learned from the Michigan Infrastructure Council’s Asset Management (AM) Champions Program and using it to advocate for best practices in infrastructure management in his community. Tom oversaw the City’s newly reconstructed Reeck Road Bridge, which is now open to the public after years of coordinated planning and construction. In addition to upgrading the bridge, Allen Park has completed the replacement of the roadway along Reeck Road from Allen Road to Wick Road and installed a new water main in the same area. By utilizing a “Dig Once” approach, this coordinated effort cut down the timeline of these projects long term by combining them — making it a prime example of what the MIC’s AM Champions program hopes to accomplish by fostering a culture of integrated asset management in communities across the state. Are you championing projects in your community that are a good example of infrastructure asset management? We want to hear from you! Send us your stories to MIC@michigan.gov for a chance to be featured in our newsletters, our website, and on our LinkedIn page. Michigan Infrastructure Council reposted this
SEMCOG released a new blog with some high-level results from the 2024 road rating program. Thanks Ian Thompson for the write-up. Our online map has been live for a few weeks (https://lnkd.in/g8MRiUjH). This is a new map template with new functionality. Currently, the map has major roads in the region. You can share filtered data with others by copying and the url of the area of interest of the map. Also new for this year -- the ability to download road condition data to geodatabase or Excel spreadsheet format. You can always reach out if you want road condition data in Roadsoft format or have questions about our pavement asset management program.
