The Edmonton Region Hydrogen HUB 2.0 has officially launched, solidifying Alberta's hydrogen leadership and showcasing collaboration between industry, government, and innovators. Hydrogen Alberta enjoyed participating in the event, featuring a speech from our chair, Rebecca Goldsack, COO of Diesel Tech Industries. At the heart of this new chapter is a dedicated group of partners: Alberta's Industrial Heartland Association, Edmonton Global, Edmonton International Airport (YEG), and Alberta Innovates. These partners' collaboration is propelling regional growth by aligning industry, government, and community efforts to advance our hydrogen economy. Leading the Edmonton Region Hydrogen HUB, Brent Lakeman's strong leadership and experience building the area's hydrogen ecosystem provide a clear vision for the future of our hydrogen economy. NGIF Accelerator has announced a grant funding contribution of $918,000 to member Aurora Hydrogen. This builds on an initial $150,000 funding to support the development of their microwave pyrolysis process for low-carbon distributed hydrogen production. The project aims to provide a low-cost, zero-emission method to produce hydrogen from methane gas. Aurora Hydrogen, a Global Cleantech Challenge finalist, has created a technology that uses microwave energy to turn methane into hydrogen and solid carbon without the generation of carbon dioxide. The process has a >95% conversion rate, lowering the environmental impact of traditional hydrogen production methods and allowing for scalable production facilities. CHA Hydrogen Alberta, welcomes the introduction of the Government of Alberta’s 2025 Budget, a fiscal plan that includes essential investments in emissions reductions and clean technologies to ensure Alberta’s commitment to reaching its decarbonization targets and strengthen Alberta’s energy sector competitiveness. Highlights include: 🔹 $10 million for the Alberta Innovates Clean Hydrogen Centre of Excellence (2025-27) to drive innovation across the hydrogen value chain. 🔹 $646 million in TIER funding (2025-2028) to reduce emissions and support clean technologies. 🔹 $173 million over the next three years in future Alberta Carbon Capture Incentive Program grants to accelerate CCUS adoption in hard-to-abate sectors. "The Alberta government’s investment will create jobs, boost both hydrogen supply and demand, and establish the province as a key player in the clean energy market," said Rebecca Goldsack, Chair of Hydrogen Alberta.
