A CDC Health Alert Network (HAN) Advisory recommends clinicians and laboratorians to rapidly test for influenza A virus subtypes for hospitalized patients who test positive for influenza A to help identify human infections with influenza A(H5) viruses. This HAN was issued in response to ongoing sporadic human infections with avian influenza A(H5N1) and high levels of seasonal flu activity.
