Top Ten Test Cases: Copyright Test

Top Ten Test Cases: Copyright Test

Really? One of the Top Ten Test Cases is to check the copyright on a website? Yes! The power of this test is in its simplicity.

Understanding the test case is very easy. Open the website, scroll to the bottom, take note of any issues along the way and check the copyright.

A proper copyright looks like this:

© 2024 by Checkie.AI. All rights reserved.

As fundamental as this test case appears, there are some additional benefits to its execution:

  • If the copyright appears on the home page then you have some results.
  • If the copyright appears on the home page then you have scrolled all the way to the bottom of the page. You will perceive a lot of other issues if they exist, just by scrolling to the bottom of the page.
  • If the copyright is accurate, then the testing team has passed their first test.
  • If the copyright is checked, then you are helping more departments than just the engineering team.

Have you run the copyright test on your website? Many of you have not, or you have and you know how sad it is that it isn't updated.

For the test results below I grabbed the first websites/links that appeared in my LinkedIn feed.

After running this simple test across 10 websites it leaves me thinking a bit like Yoda from Episode II: Forgot the copyright, this website has, how embarrassing.
