Roswell NYC's Shopify Migration Checklist

When migrating your store to Shopify Plus, it’s important to understand that you are not just redesigning and moving your store front, you are also moving your entire digital store which includes your product database, customer database, and perhaps even your historical orders. 

Here’s a migration checklist from Roswell to help ensure that you have everything accounted for: 

• Product database inclusive of all product data and alternate images or media 
• Customer database inclusive of any previous tags or customer notes
• Order database inclusive of products purchased, shipping costs, taxes and discounts
• Onsite tracking scripts (i.e. conversion tracking scripts, behavioral tracking scripts)
• App Integrations → just because an application works well with your legacy site it doesn’t mean the same application will work well - or at all - with the Shopify Plus platform; you may need to consider development of the functionality as an added scope element, or investigating an application that will work with the Shopify platform
• Meta fields (this can apply to products, customers, orders and more - and if this is a part of your legacy site, it is critical to ensure that these are ported over as well)
• Blog Posts / Press Posts / Content in General (this typically isn’t something that can be automated, and often requires manual transfer depending on the ability to port information from the legacy site to your new site)
• Product Reviews 
• Legacy Gift Cards
• Legacy Subscriptions 
• SEO Fundamentals (h1 tags, page titles, meta descriptions, schema markup, page speed essentials)
• Analytics Tracking Scripts (Google Analytics // Google Tag Manager)
• Retargeting Scripts (Google Ads, Facebook Ads, Criteo / AdRoll)

While this is a hefty list to consider, it is by no means exhaustive. But if you are migrating from a separate platform to Shopify Plus, the above checklist is essential to use as a basis to build from.
