Recruitment Strategy Alert: Watchout

Recruitment Strategy Alert: Watchout

Most of today's recruitment happens in two ways - direct recruitment or indirect recruitment. Whether you agree or not HR is the gatekeeper for the organization letting in or out employees to or of the organization. Both recruitment types have a costs associated as always. Period. Whether it is paid as the time of your HR employee or your contracted recruiter. Quantity and Quality of recruitment also has a cost attached, always. Period. Whether, you hire a bad candidate, trainable candidate, skilled candidate - all is dependent on your strategies and priorities. You choose your strategy.

But, is your recruitment strategy becoming a mundane and cut process which mandates to standards, and does not listen to the market? Have you ever started behaving like your business comes first and then the employees. Or have you been focusing too much on sly employees more than genuine ones making your business suffer. The reality can be a difficult and bleeding business. You need a potion, out of the box, Balance. Your team is a reflection of your recruitment process; and your recruitment team is reflection of your (top management) priorities and judgement. But has the reflection of the current employee market trend become a lot more cruel and high in attitude? Well, they may be just be reflecting the reality in the market. Some of these crucial issues do need not an industry perception but organizations internal reflection:

* Good skilled employees not easy to find or demanding high packages

* Good skilled employees not interviewed at all

* Good and Bad employees both leaving the organization in a short time span creating a lot of employee churn

* Lot of people on bench and employees loving bench. Or no bench / fallback at all.

* Imbalance of internal promotions and external hires

* Balance between depending on numbers and value

* Too much disruption (leading to chaos) within your organization or too little

* Add more that I cannot say or forgot to say

All these have impact to your business. But most of these impacts are created by business needs, attitude of your strategies, employee's/vendor's perception of attitude of your strategies, and attitude of your employees. It all boils down to business needs, and attitude. So if you have focused on your business, strategy, and attitude for better business you have made a choice knowing or unknowingly. That same choice is reflected in your hiring processes, recruiters, and your potential hires. Believe it. Its true. Your organization is shaping the market. Your wishes, strategies, and creation has an tremendous magnification whether good or bad. AI or Analytics may help but are not yet humans. So your people strategy still needs people to create one. I am no god. I have made mistakes, as well. Some of the actions (taken years back) I thought were right might have been wrong; which I realized when reflecting on the decision from different perspective. Your perspective is small. Believe it, it is really small. Give it a chance, give it space, give it ears to listen, give it some brain and heart to understand. You are in Human resources. And as an CEO you too share a responsibility - Human Resources. Choose wisely, create wisely, complain wisely, and more importantly - act wisely.
