Power House Games ready to roll!
The new staff T-Shirts arrived this weekend. I’m really looking forward to taking the Power2inspire team into 15 Special needs schools over the next two months. It will be a busy but very rewarding time using inclusive and adapted sports to engage with hundreds of kids across Essex.
Power2Inspire’s mission is to promote a more Inclusive society and we aim to achieve this through sport. We use the empowering nature of sport to promote our Inclusive message in a number of ways. Our principal vehicle is something we call a “Power House games”. Essentially these are mini sports days using Adapted and Inclusive games and sports activities. Although many of the games were designed for people with disabilities, the games by definition are inclusive so these very “user friendly” activities often provide the perfect hook to engage “non-sporty” children. We explain and demonstrate how the games came into being and how they allow, not just people with a disability, but “anybody” regardless of age, body shape, gender, social background, race, culture or physical ability, to be included in a sport. So children learn to challenge their assumptions, respect people’s differences and explore their understanding of what they can do. At same time the children are benefiting from the positive physical and social experience that we know sport can provide. Importantly they have a lot of fun and so are more inclined to want to try sport again.
Big thanks to Active Essex for giving us the opportunity to do our thing in Essex.
