People Who Inspire - 2019
Reflecting back on last year there are a few people that have no idea how much they impacted my life in 2019. Below are the four incredible people that made a huge difference in life.
Edgar Sanchez – more than a Microsoft colleague, he became a person that I can call for anything. We met awhile ago and similar passions to help others brought us closer together. From weekly calls to see how we can help to hosting talking sessions just to make sure I’m okay. Edgar is incredibly genuine and truly cares about the well-being of others. His friendship has helped me overcome tragedy, stress and personal demons by letting me know that I’m not alone. Edgar you are an amazing person and I hope you know that you have impacted my life in a big way. I will be forever be grateful.
Stephanie Oehler – our fearless Kent State alumni leader. Oh goodness, where do I start? If you have ever met her you would never forget her. She is not afraid to be herself and share her opinions, the best person to have in your corner. I am inspired by her dedication and commitment to those who are close to her. I admire her for her perseverance, attitude towards life and your ability to challenge others to be the best version of themselves. I will never forget the time that she brought my mom on stage to karaoke at Copper Blues. This was one of my memorable moments I have ever had. It was amazing to see my mom so happy. Stephanie – you bring so much energy to my life, and I am so unbelievably fortunate to know you.
Al Dullum. – when we met it was to discuss computers for students, but the discussion evolved to how can we help the students and families beyond technology. He works for the Tolleson Elementary School District and his approach to technology for the students wasn’t focused on price, it was all about how can we provide the best solutions that will directly impact learning outcomes. I have learned so much from him and his passion for teachers, students and parents inspires me to be bigger than my position. He is someone that has reshaped my mindset when working with schools. He became someone that I can always call or have a beer with to talk about anything. I was invited to join his softball team to get me back into sports to help with work-life balance, and we had some incredible conversations. Al – you are an inspiration and an amazing person who always stays true to your values. For that I thank you. It was meeting you that provided me with a refreshing feeling to stay true to who I am.
Malorie Navarrette – a barber with a HUGE heart. We first met when I desperately needed a haircut before an event the next day. She came to the house and we started talking. She was asking a ton of questions to get to know me since I am marrying her sister. Wow, when she started sharing more about her, I was completely taken off guard. All I could think about was that she was an incredible person. For her cutting hair is a way to help people with confidence, while building a deeper connection. Even though she is going through her own struggles her heart to help others is still extremely apparent. She is always open to help, even if it means giving up a day of pay. Traveling across Arizona to cut the hair of an elderly man to visiting the homes of people with autism. Mal – you are one of the strongest and passionate people I have ever met. It’s more than a haircut when I visit you, it’s feeding my soul to stay focused on what’s important. I’m excited that soon you will be my sister!
