A New World is Dawning. Will Your Company Culture Lead You Forward or Leave You Behind?
Do you measure the success of your company by the profit or by the company culture?
Is a company with high profits but a bad culture really successful or is a company that values its staff more successful?
Have you ever gone on to Indeed or any other recruitment agency & looked at the staff ratings of your company?
Do they accurately reflect the culture of your company?
More to the point, do they reflect the culture you claim to have?
While I acknowledge that people are far more likely to complain than praise, when the bulk of the comments are slamming management for lack of leadership or paying lip service to health & safety, one has to wonder how efficient & effective the workforce is. Or how much the high turnover is costing the company. Not to mention how many possible candidates decide not to apply after reading the reviews!
A workforce who resents management will never be as productive as they could be & the energy expanded by management to keep noses to the grindstone could surely be better utilised to bring out the best in their teams.
A workforce which is disgruntled will look for ways to cut corners & hoodwink management whenever possible. Staff will never give their best & stress will always cost a company dearly in inefficient productivity & sick leave. There will always be a them & us competition with no winners.
Compare this to a workforce who feels valued. This workforce will look for ways to improve productivity simply because that’s what we do as humans, we want to do better & we all have a need to feel valued.
This workforce will work as a team, all wanting to be part of creating something better. They will be creative as well as productive. They will pull together to support each other, acknowledging that by recognising each other’s strengths & weaknesses means that everyone is willing to play to their strengths & ask for help in developing their weaknesses.
Just imagine a team of management & staff all working together, supporting each other, enjoying their work, healthier & more productive than you could have believed possible.
Imagine management AND staff, enjoying their work, proud to work for your company & your profits increasing as a result.

A culture that respects & values its workforce, at all levels, will always create a successful company.
As we move into this new world, it is the culture of a company that will determine its success. The old ways aren’t working any more (I’m not sure they ever did!) & the workforce of the future will not demand better a better work culture, they will simply walk away & find another company who has a culture which matches their values.
People are waking up to a new way of living & realising that spending 40+ hours a week for 40+ years doing something they dislike or even hate, is not something they are willing to accept & rightly so. Gone are the days of no choice. In today’s world there is more choice than ever & the workplace is changing drastically, particularly over the last couple of years! People are recognising that they have other options & that work/life harmony is more important than loyalty to an employer.
I encourage you to look at your company values & really assess how well you’re doing & even if they are the values you need to take you forward. If your company values are not being lived by the workforce then maybe it’s time to review what is truly important to everyone.
Engaging staff through aligned values will increase productivity & retention, both good for profit!
Working harder has been repeatedly shown to be ineffective & the saying that if hard work was the cause of success, then every African woman would be successful is as true now as ever. The global situation has confirmed what Silicon Valley has long known, that less is more. When staff feel valued & enjoy their work, they are naturally more productive.
Are you ready to change or at least improve your company culture?
How long does it take? We used to say it takes at least generation to create a cultural shift & yet Covid has created a whole new global culture in a few months so it is possible to change the culture in a shorter time.
Change is easy when done right!
Let’s talk about what your company could look like if your staff feel valued.
