THE NEW SECURITY DIFFERENTIATOR: MASTERING UNSTRUCTURED DATA

A NEW WORLD OF DATA INSIGHT

Over many years, storage advancements have tended to occur in waves of activity focused on particular characteristics. There was a wave related to protection, when innovations like snapshots and backup to disk came to market. There was a capacity-focused wave, when improvements like thin provisioning, inline compression, and deduplication were the hot commodities. The most recent wave has been all about Flash/SSD with focus on performance & density.

The time has come for a new wave of innovation, focused not on the storage container at all, but on the data.

Because many security departments are more worried about control than productivity, the unintended consequences of policies are not considered. Forced to choose between disruptive security directives and getting their job done, employees invariably choose to be productive.  Employees often move sensitive documents & information via email or to unsecured locations like Dropbox or Google Docs for easy access & to be more productive. All of this human generated data has been largely ignored by most organizations as they stick it on file storage off in the dark corner of the data center. This data can no longer be ignored, it is growing at far to big a clip year over year (40%) to stick with the same strategy.  It's also becoming a huge risk to the organization and understanding what is inside this data is required to make it more secure. This is where DataGravity has emerged and created a new storage category called Data-Aware storage that combines security & storage into a single solution.

DataGravity is the first company to expand the boundaries of storage and deliver a platform for data insight alongside storing and securing your information.

File Analytics & Insights

DataGravity's built-in file analytics provides a continual stream of detail about who is accessing which data, when, how, etc. Think of it as a Facebook timeline with graphical displays of access patterns of each & every file that lives within all your unstructured data.

Governance & Compliance

By providing a continual audit trail of not just host access but also user access, activity, and collaboration, the data-aware storage provides built-in security and information governance which allows companies to comply quickly with eDiscovery requests and data audits.

A Powerful Search Engine

Activity-based tracking and full text indexing can be used to deliver fast and powerful insights into your data. The DataGravity search engine can not only be used to search for a phrase in a simple text file or document, it can also find that phrase in a spreadsheet, a presentation, the title of an audio track, or even such files within a VM disk image.  You can actually look inside your data and its usage to improve productivity, operational efficiency, and profit as well as reduce infrastructure costs.

Data Security

A security officer can search a file share for any files that include identified personal information.  You can actually view an image of that file to confirm the existence of PII and identify not just who changed the file and when, but also who has simply read the file, who they collaborate with, and explore what other projects they are involved with.  This enables IT to identify when security lines have been crossed, and also to help prove that certain files have not been viewed by unauthorized personnel.

Data-Aware - Security & Storage Combined

DataGravity delivers a fuller, intelligence-enhanced view into your information, while at the same time delivering a state-of-the-art production storage system with built-in data protection. DataGravity was designed to illuminate the data insight that has been locked behind your storage & helped bridge the gap between security & storage.
