Protagonist Therapeutics Publishes Promising Phase II Blood Cancer Data for Therapy
Protagonist Therapeutics publishes positive phase II trial results for polycythemia vera, a rare form of blood cancer. How is this disease characterized? How does the therapy aim to address it?
#Polycythemia vera (PV) is a rare, chronic blood disorder characterized by the overproduction of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets in the bone marrow. This excessive production leads to an increase in the total volume of blood, causing it to become thicker, and can result in complications such as blood clots.
Camilla Fedi, our Consultant in Medical Affairs, commented: “This phase II study investigated the potential of a small peptide called rusfertide in treating this rare form of cancer. Results show a 6% drop in blood density in people who were administered the therapy compared to a placebo group. This is very promising data but a full assessment of the trial will be completed in 2025.”
Sanofi guarantees employees one year of salary and support after cancer diagnosis
CEO Paul Hudson's vision for the company encompasses a diversity, equity and inclusion plan - with the newest update guaranteeing employees 1 year of salary and support after cancer diagnosis.
Megan Stoddart, our Associate Consultant in Medical Affairs, says “This is great to see and more companies should be stepping up to provide social, emotional and financial support to our friends and colleagues in the workplace who are facing this cruel and merciless illness. In my view, Natalie Bickford (Chief People Office at Sanofi) puts it perfectly:
“Many of us will face cancer one way or another in our lives. The last thing you want to be thinking about when you are diagnosed with cancer, or going through treatment, is work. And yet, half of people who receive a cancer diagnosis are frightened to tell their workplace. That is not right.”
