It's Time to Get Proactive: SoSecure October

October is not just about the nights drawing in and pumpkins; it's also Cybersecurity Awareness Month! Every year, communities across the world come together to spread awareness of the importance of cybersecurity in both business and personal settings.

As cyber threats continue to increase, both in volume and sophistication, it's crucial for businesses, big and small, to stay informed and protected. Keeping you informed is precisely what the SoSecure Newsletter aims to do this and every month 😉.

It's Time to Get Proactive 🔐

It's a well-established fact in the cybersecurity community that the cost of preventing a cyber breach is significantly less than the expenses associated with recovery and damage control post-breach. But still, many businesses are complacent.

In the last edition, we talked about overcoming complacency. That mindset leads you to believe that cybercrime happens to other people or other businesses. It means you're not thinking about cybersecurity and how to protect your business. When an attack happens, you're forced to react. If you thought it wouldn't happen to you, it's unlikely you'll have a plan in place for proper damage control. Sounds like a mess, right?

So what to do? Well, get proactive, of course. Read on as we explore what your business needs to do to keep the hackers at bay.

Get Cyber Essentials Certified

Cyber Essentials certification is your first step toward a more secure business. By getting certified, you're telling the world you take cybersecurity seriously. It's not just a badge; it's a shield. By implementing five simple controls, this certification demonstrates your commitment to securing digital assets, building customer trust, and establishing a solid security base.

Use a Password Manager 👩💻

Managing passwords can be a hassle for your team. A password manager simplifies this task by securely storing and generating complex passwords for your accounts. No more sticky notes on your monitor or using "123456" as your password. With a password manager, you can substantially strengthen your account security.

Turn on Multifactor Authentication 📱

Multifactor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your accounts. Users must provide two or more authentication factors, like a code sent to a phone or a separate email account, before granting access. This means that even if someone obtains your password, they can't access your account without the extra layer. MFA is one of the most powerful defences against unauthorised access.

Train your Staff on Cyber Awareness 🧑💼

Educating your staff about cybersecurity is crucial. Your staff are often the first line of defence against cyber threats and often cause around 62% of security incidents! Training helps them recognise phishing emails, avoid risky online behaviour, and understand their role in maintaining a secure digital environment. Well-informed employees contribute significantly to your overall cybersecurity posture.

Embrace Advanced Tools - EDR and SIEM 🔑

Integrating advanced cybersecurity tools like Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solutions enhances your organisation's ability to detect and respond to threats before they become attacks. These tools continually monitor your network, identify suspicious activities, and offer insights into potential threats. They empower you to address security concerns and manage risks effectively and proactively.

So, get proactive and implement these cybersecurity practices. It's not rocket science, but the rocket fuel your business needs to stay ahead of hackers. 🚀

Ai is Transforming Cybersecurity: Is your business ready?

We're hosting a webinar for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and you, our fantastic SoSecure crew, are invited!

You'd have to be living under a rock not to notice that everyone is talking about AI. The latest developments in generative AI are opening up new opportunities in many areas. But like most things, there is also a darker side. And that's what we're focussing on in this event—the array of new and sophisticated ai-cyber threats that are even harder to detect.

Is your business equipped to face these evolving challenges?
