The Importance of Coding for Marketers
As Marketers, we tend to think of our jobs as the paramount position in the business. For we are creating value for the consumer and bringing them to our brand. So why would we need to know coding when we can get someone else to do it for us?
Coding 4 Dummies
Coding is how we communicate with computers, it tells what actions a computer should take. From AI to basic websites, it all takes in code.
"A marketer who can get their hands dirty will be much more effective than one that always has to lean on a developer." - Wade Foster. This was stated in 2013, when computer programming was starting to become more normalized. One main language marketers should get familiar with is HTML, which is the computer language of websites.
Website Platforms

Two of the most common website platforms to kick start your business's website is WordPress and Squarespace. These platforms are great for beginners trying to understand a website's layouts. Originally websites were made entirely from HTML code, but these platforms make it easy by skipping the nitty gritty of coding and let's you focus on the important parts of your website. WordPress does offer a free option for users that can later upgrade to access more options. Squarespace is more of a monthly subscription that allows you to access everything they offer.
Both platforms offer templates the users can base off of for their websites, and no coding experience is required. There are some benefits that the other platform doesn't perform as well. For example, WordPress's SEO tools are more effective than Squarespace. There are several differences between the both of them, but you'll have to explore them yourself to see which platform you prefer. Both platforms are great to use, and they are both scalable.
The Desired Marketer
If a marketer understands the basics of coding, they are more sought out than marketers that don't understand coding. One reason why they are more valuable is because if there is an issue with your brand's website. The marketer could easily correct the small error in the website than have to wait for a coder to fix the mistake. This will save time and money for the company and your team, which will make it easier to focus on more important tasks that need to be addressed.
Another reason why a marketer that understands coding is more valuable is because there is a huge rise in data analysis. Data Science is a coding basic that works on capturing and cleaning data. Marketing is taking that data and interpreting it for the company to use. Marketers that understand coding can become that middleman and become highly efficient within the data industry. It is your choice to be ahead of the demand for future jobs or try to catch up. Happy learning!!
