Hotel Paisano in Marfa, Texas, which is in the high dessert and in the mountains of West Texas, is a throwback hotel to the days of the 1950’s. As you walk into the hotel you are greeted with an open air patio, water fountain with palm trees. On a cool evening you sit as a cool summer breeze overtakes you as your eyes look up into the bright stars at night. As you enter the lobby l you will see a Bison, Long Horn Steer, and a Short Horn Steer heads mounted on the wall giving you the flavor of being in the wild west. The lobby is decked out with western chairs and Spanish Tile as you begin to relax and head back in time.

Why is the Hotel Paisano in Marfa Texas so special? Well, this is where the cast of the 1955 movie ‘Giant’ stayed as they filmed the movie. The stars were Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean. All over the walls are pictures of the stars and the sets from the movie Giant. The movie is about a cattle baron and an oil wildcatter who discovers oil on his small parcel of land.  

After seeing all the pictures of the ‘Giant’ movie set and stars on the walls of the hotel, you being to see the landscape that surrounds the town of Marfa. If you are looking for a true get away from civilization then Marfa is the place to go. You do have internet and cell service but the real question is ‘WHY?’  

There is so much more to do in the Big Bend area as an example; Ft. Davis where the Buffalo Soldiers were posted, The Big Bend National Park, and let us not forget the biggest mystery of all. The Marfa Lights that appear at night and no one knows why they appear and disappear.
