Come as strangers, leave as friends
Last week, I had the privilege of sharing a 14-acre slice of paradise with roughly 25 strangers but as the sign above suggests, while we arrived as strangers, we left as friends. For my blog this time around, I wanted to share some of my experiences from my private, remote island retreat to Turneffe Island Resort.
With a max occupancy of just over fifty guests, during my stay, the island was about fifty percent populated and as some guests left on Wednesday for the end of their vacation, new guests arrived bumping the numbers up just a bit. TIR is unlike any tropical resort I’ve been to before. Granted, I’ve only stayed at two before my stint at TIR but those resorts were capable of hosting hundreds, if not thousands of guests at a time. Within 12 hours of stepping off the boat at TIR, staff knew me and called me by my name which, as a guest, is welcoming and a wonderful touch.
The resort is the epitome of “island time”. While there are scheduled activities throughout the day, with just a handful of guests and plenty of staff, the resort is more agile than larger ones and can easily cater to individual tastes of guests.
