Experience with Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server
As days pass by there is always a new learning with new tool as we explore. Sometime it would have less impact, sometime major impact with our experiments.
Very recently it happened so that Tableau desktop version on local machine got updated to 10.1 and server version remained 10.0. So when tried to deploy database extract to server it throwed error and have to redo extract again.
It's different with Tableau application, it won't update current local version, instead it would be installed as new application. So, at any time we have updated our tableau desktop for sure you would still find all your old application still on your computer.
Tableau application Server roles looks to be slightly similar to SharePoint server. I might be wrong. Similar levels of server roles could also be found in SharePoint Server like Reader, viewer, contributor, site administrator, so on.
All aggregation, display in Tableau is Case sensitive. I am sure most of them are already aware of this point. So, either in connection string, column name, column values if any change in case would definitely raise errors. Datatype mismatch is also an thing to consider.
At the beginning of my exploring I missed a point that Tableau is an application and never imagined it's limitations. probably, I spent too much time on Qlik view scripting, customization, Symantec layer that possible could be built in Qlik Sense.
So it's fun learning and working on Tableau Desktop and Server.
