Kim Johnson MP recently visited RS Clare & Co Ltd in her Liverpool Riverside constituency, as part of RIA's Rail Fellowship Programme, an initiative designed to give politicians a deeper understanding of the work of companies across the UK rail supply chain. During the visit, Kim gained insight into RS Clare’s investment in innovative products and application equipment which support the rail industry. She also heard how the company’s acquisition of Swiss based rail lubrication firm Igralub in 2023 was transforming the business and its ability to meet the evolving needs of the rail sector across the UK. Kim Johnson MP said: "I was thrilled to visit RS Clare, a cornerstone of Liverpool’s industrial heritage and one of the city’s oldest firms, with 277 years of history. What stood out to me was their impressive ability to blend tradition with innovation, creating cutting-edge products that meet the demands of a rapidly evolving rail industry. Their forward-thinking approach reflects a deep understanding of the need to adapt and thrive in changing times. It’s fantastic to see the announcement that Flintshire and Wrexham will receive Advanced Manufacturing Investment Zone status – a significant milestone for North Wales and the growing cluster of advanced manufacturing businesses here. We’ve been investing in Wrexham for almost 20 years now, and we're proud to have three of our schemes on Wrexham Industrial Estate – Wrexham 1M, Wrexham 152 and Bridgeway Centre – all within the designated Investment Zone. We’ll be investing £115m to create new, high-quality industrial accommodation, supporting the creation of over 1,000 new jobs and delivering an estimated economic value of £1.2bn in Wrexham over the next 10 years. I recently shared my thoughts on what 2025 holds for business with Lancashire Business View, including what would be on my wish list if I was Chancellor. I believe the challenges our sector faces in 2025 are reflected nationwide.   While it’s difficult to pinpoint a single area, the ongoing national shortage of technical skills remains a significant hurdle for our industry, and others in the manufacturing space. That’s why I said that one of my priorities would be to recognise and aggressively provide breakthrough solutions that close skills and technology gaps, supporting both manufacturing and construction to deliver growth and improve productivity.      At VEKA UK, we strive to be an employer of choice in #Lancashire and creating a supportive work environment helps to maintain employee retention. That said some disciplines can prove challenging to recruit and retain, mainly those of a technical nature. This reflects a gap between the supply of technically skilled workers in the UK and the demand for them.    As employers, we need to work together to tackle the #SkillsGap in manufacturing, to ensure that we are not only upskilling our own workforces but supporting the development of a future pipeline of talent who see manufacturing as the industry to develop a rewarding career.   Thank you to Ged Henderson for inviting me to share my thoughts on our industry for 2025.    Be sure to check out the article which features interesting insights from fellow Lancashire business leaders: https://lnkd.in/esnV5jfw

The Future is Fuelled by Jet. BDALondon has just returned from a productive visit with our new retail partners in the vibrant city of Johannesburg. Jet, the latest addition to the TFG family, is making waves in the value sector with its sharp focus. Our three-day workshop brought together key stakeholders for a series of enlightening sessions. Stuart Baird, the group's retail director, delivered an inspirational talk, shedding light on TFG's significant investments in logistics and procurement infrastructure. BDA's success hinges on our collaboration with local partners to develop a strategic, compelling, and commercially viable brand and product strategy for the local market. Together, we're forming an invincible team, as highlighted in my LinkedIn post from March 26th about the power of collaboration. We're applying the 80/20 principle (see my June 2023 LinkedIn post on 'Vilfredo Pareto') to hone a focused product range. This approach aims to enhance trading densities, stock turnover, clearances, maintained margins, and profitability—all while committing to zero landfill, embodying a sustainable model for business and the environment. Furthermore, we've meticulously curated well-balanced color palettes that meet customer needs while incorporating seasonal trend colors to cater to their desires (see my April 9th LinkedIn post on 'Colour Trend Forecasting'). This journey is exhilarating.
