Ochsner Health, based in New Orleans and operating over 40 facilities across the Gulf South, successfully reduced healthcare costs by $56M for 500K patients. Furthermore, Ochsner allocated $45M of the savings to compensate doctors and healthcare providers. The achievement of these cost savings was attributed to three key strategies: 1. Enhancing outpatient primary care to minimize ER visits and hospitalizations. 2. Assuming financial responsibility for the overall cost of patient care. 3. Mitigating the prevalence of diseases.

Originally set to be implemented in 9 hospitals within its first year, the I-PASS KHATCH Program has expanded to 25—nearly tripling its goal. With the addition of EMH’s three facilities, the program has already reached 32% of its eight-year target to improve care quality and patient safety across 60% of KHA members. It is a sad testament to the state of healthcare in New Yorks State that there are more F rates facilities in New York than anywhere else, and New York does not boast one single A rated facility. I fear the situation will only worsen especially with recent reports that there are more rural hospitals at risk of closure in New York than any other state. The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit representing hundreds of the nation's most influential employers and purchasers of health care, released the fall 2024 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade last November. These grades provide a critical measure of patient safety for hospitals nationwide. Improving from the spring 2024 safety grade, 38.4% of hospitals in Tennessee earned an "A" in the assessment. Tennessee is now ranked 12th in the country for the percentage of hospitals earning "A" grades in this measure. Here's the breakdown: In Tennessee, 86 hospitals were graded. 33 earned an "A." 27 earned a "B." 22 earned a "C." 4 earned a "D." 0 earned an "F." Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle has earned an "A" since 2012! The fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grade shows hospitals nationwide are making strides in patient safety across several performance measures, including improvements in health care-association infections, hand hygiene and medication safety.

Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for its Critical Access Hospital Accreditation after an unannounced review in August of this year. This seal of approval indicates the hospital meets compliance with standards set by healthcare experts and providers in areas such as emergency management, environment of care, leadership, and more. The Critical Access Hospital Accreditation program is intended to improve access to healthcare in rural communities.
