Access to quality health care is a fundamental right for every individual. With the right knowledge and skills, autistic individuals and their caregivers can empower themselves to advocate for their unique needs. And if anyone faces barriers to receiving equal health care, they have the power to speak up and demand change from their clinical providers. https://buff.ly/4aFvAuU #AutismAcceptanceMonth

Research shows that nearly 134 million adverse events occur annually in hospitals in low- and middle-income countries alone, leading to 2.6 million deaths. As we observe World Patient Safety Day, we recognize that many of these tragic outcomes are preventable through better health literacy. When patients fully understand their care instructions, they are 30% more likely to follow treatment plans correctly, reducing complications and hospitalizations. Community engagement is key to making this change sustainable. In settings where communities actively participate in health education, avoidable harm is reduced by up to 25%, and patient safety outcomes significantly improve. Informed individuals take ownership of their health, enhancing both their safety and the system’s efficiency. #WorldPatientSafetyDay #HealthLiteracy #PatientSafety #CommunityEngagement #InformedCare #EmpoweredPatients #PatientRights #SafeHealthcare

Today's focus for National Health Center Week is: Healthcare for people experiencing homelessness. Did you know Community Health Centers (CHCs) serve over 1.3 million patients who experience homelessness every year? Those facing homelessness are at heightened risk for chronic and acute diseases, behavioral health conditions, and more, which can lead to poor health outcomes, disabilities, and premature death. Our dedicated member CHCs, like Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, are at the forefront, providing essential care, support, and dignity to those in need. Today serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact that accessible, compassionate healthcare can have in breaking the cycle of homelessness. #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs #CoCHCs
Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) is proud to celebrate National Health Center Week! This annual event highlights the essential role Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) play in improving public health and advancing health equity. CCH operates a FQHC, the Stout Street Health Center, and the clinic has served clients for 10 years now! In 2023, we served 17,022 patients. #NHCW24 #ValueCHCs

Sue Robins insights on the challenges facing patient advocates with lived experience, including the lack of flexibility and the devaluation of their expertise, are spot on. "I no longer sell people on the patient voice," she writes "If they don’t believe in it as demonstrated through their actions, I don’t bother." She also outlines six calls to action for #patientadvocates ✅ Demand fair compensation. ✅Boycott disrespectful organizations. ✅Share your experiences (good and bad). ✅Support your fellow advocates. ✅Define your own call to action for change. ✅Get organized! Let's work together to build a more equitable and just healthcare system.
"Alas, as patients rabble-rousing for a brighter future in health care, we can only meet organizations where they are at, not where we want them to be. I’m forever quoting the Serenity Prayer in my work. What is actually in your control?" The words I shared here on January 1 in my FAQ's for patient engagement consulting spoke to many people. Thank you to everybody who made the time to share and reply to that post. I merged my original post with my own comments and wrote an essay on my website. I shared the 'state of the nation' for 2025 in patient advocacy work and centred on six calls to action for advocates in the health care world. https://lnkd.in/gk_wN-V6

How well do you understand how CQC is changing? In 2023 we launched a communication campaign to ensure all health & social care providers and professionals understand what these changes are, what they mean for them and what they need to do to prepare for these changes being implemented. To help us measure how successful this campaign has been so far, we want to know how well you understand these changes. To help us do this we'd like your feedback through a short survey https://buff.ly/3VAOw7P
