UK Hydrographic Office’s Post

A new report has revealed the significant benefits of seabed mapping within the UK Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The report estimates that seabed mapping in the UK EEZ delivers around £8.9 billion in benefits. The annual investment is around £103 million. This results in a cost benefit ratio of £86 in benefits for every £1 spent on seabed mapping. Commissioned by the UKHO and developed by Eunomia Research & Consulting - Certified B Corp., the report highlights the value of seabed mapping data and aims to improve its quality, access and coverage. With technological advancements and initiatives like the UK Centre for Seabed Mapping, the UK is improving its understanding of the seafloor, ensuring safer, more sustainable maritime operations.
