🌟 Case Study Spotlight: Transforming Continence Care Training for Queensland Aged Care Providers 🌟 At Carmody Group & Co, we're proud to share how we partnered with The Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA) to revolutionise continence care training for Registered Nurses (RNs) and Personal Care Workers (PCWs) in the Queensland community. 🚀 Challenge: The Queensland Government identified a critical gap in continence care training for community-based healthcare providers. Existing programs lacked inclusivity and specificity, leading to potential competence gaps among busy nurses and personal care workers. 🎯 Objective: Our mission was clear: fill the gap identified by the Queensland Government to ensure RNs and PCWs were competent in continence care management when working in the community. We set out to develop 15 interactive e-learning modules that were inclusive, engaging, and specific to incontinence management. 💡 Solution: Through close collaboration with ACCPA, we crafted interactive e-learning modules that addressed the unique challenges faced by community-based care providers. Our multimedia-rich content, interactive exercises, and scenario-based learning ensured comprehensive training that resonated with busy healthcare professionals. 📈 Results: The outcomes were exceptional. Our training program received glowing feedback, with participants reporting increased confidence and competence in continence care management. Not only did it fill the gap identified by the Queensland Government, but it also led to improved client outcomes and satisfaction. 🌐 Learn More: Ready to elevate your staff's training? The NHS pledge to save 100,000 staff days through training cuts raises important questions for me about how we train, not just how much we train. Working with NHS teams this year, I’ve repeatedly heard about the challenges of mandatory training, especially as increasing amounts move to online platforms. Many staff admit to disengaging—skipping through modules just to complete the test—ultimately defeating the purpose of the training. This isn't simply about reducing training volume but about ensuring its quality, relevance, and impact. For training to be effective, it must: Engage learners meaningfully, connecting content to real-world scenarios. Be flexible, respecting the diverse experiences and prior knowledge of staff. Promote active participation rather than box-ticking compliance. The proposed digital staff passport and guidance on refresher training frequency are steps forward, but they won't solve the deeper issue if training remains uninspiring or disconnected from day-to-day practice. This feels like an opportunity to agree what impactful training looks like in the NHS—because well-trained, engaged teams are critical to delivering safe, high-quality care. What’s your experience of statutory and mandatory training? Do you feel it's meeting the needs of staff and patients alike? #NHS #Training #WorkplaceLearning #OrganisationalDevelopment

In healthcare, hands-on training on different safety-related topics is vital, but opportunities are often limited by patient availability, time, and resources. This results in inconsistent training quality, with some trainees getting more experience than others. How do we ensure that all healthcare professionals, from doctors to nurses, are equally prepared for the high-pressure situations they’ll face often? There could be a better way to standardize hands-on experience, ensuring everyone is equally ready to care for patients. The future of safety training in healthcare is evolving.
