FLAGLER BUS RAPID TRANSIT: A plan to monitor bus rapid transit running down the center of Flagler Street for 2.1 miles in dedicated lanes to be repurposed from existing lanes is to see a November 2027 start for the year-long study of how the concept performs in Miami’s traffic. “Right now we are vetting a traffic methodology through our internal offices and also vetting a safety analysis,” Nilia Cartaya of the Florida Department of Transportation said last month. The aim is to award a construction contract for the pilot program in November 2026. The project would use existing bus stops and routes from Northwest Sixth to 27th avenues at a projected capital cost of $7.3 million. EAST-WEST TRANSIT STUDY: The Florida Department of Transportation is in the process of procuring a study team to look at an elevated fixed guideway transportation system for east-west commuting in Miami-Dade County along the Flagler Street corridor. Once a study team is on board, the state is looking at starting the study of alternatives for the route from downtown to Florida International University in February, the department’s Nilia Cartaya told the Citizens’ Independent Transportation Trust in December. An earlier plan for bus rapid transit running on a 13.5-mile corridor along SR 836 between downtown Miami and a Tamiami terminal was put on hold a year ago by a unanimous vote of the county’s Transportation Planning Organization as the organization’s board sought elevated transit instead of buses. https://lnkd.in/edmfD2pH #FYIMiami #MiamiTodayNews #FDOT #MiamiDadeCounty

The width of the lines on the map indicates the train #connection times of every: ➝ 7.5 minutes ➝ 15 minutes ➝ 30 minutes ➝ 1 hour The thicker the line, the more frequent the connection. Through utilizing Value Analysis during project delivery, Caltrans was able to save $3.6 million on this project by using an alternate pavement material. This efficiency is included in the FY 2023-24 Caltrans Efficiencies Report, which will be released this winter at https://lnkd.in/gf8wAxuD

The world’s largest and busiest bus station, The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s Midtown Bus Terminal, is experiencing a flurry of holiday travelers this season. WSP is spearheading the design for the terminal’s replacement and expansion to meet future forecasted bus volumes. The project has reached major milestones with the signing of the Final Environmental Impact Statement and final and complete approval from the Federal Transit Administration and the city of New York to replace the aging terminal with a world-class facility. A new 2.1-million-square-foot main terminal, a dedicated storage and staging facility and direct ramp connections to the Lincoln Tunnel aim to enhance travel efficiency and safety for commuters and visitors, while also reducing bus congestion on surrounding streets. INDUSTRY NEWS: The Australian Government has announced $33.3 million in funding towards improving road safety amongst 56 known crash sites under the 2024-25 Black Spot Program. Safety measures such as traffic lights, safety barriers, roundabouts, and better pedestrian access will be installed in high-risk areas. Key projects currently being funded includes: - Eramosa Road, Somerville: $1.37M for 40km/h speed ones and traffic managements - Calder Highway, Irymple: $1.38M for road widening, painted separators, and safety barriers. - MacArthur Street, Sale: $1.22M for a single-lane roundabout with pedestrians This latest round of funding is part of a larger effort to reduce the worsening road toll on Australian roads.
