What’s the Craziest Turn Your Career Has Taken? If someone had told me years ago that I’d go from being an accomplished law enforcement officer to a SaaS product manager, I might have laughed. But here I am, leading the charge for a new public safety background investigation tool and LOVING it! My career has always been rooted in serving the public and ensuring safety, but this unexpected transition into the tech world has allowed me to amplify that impact in ways I never imagined. How about you? What unexpected turns have your career taken? I’d love to hear your story! #careerchange #publicsafety #saas #productmanagement

#Mindsets: Coach. Consultant. Owner. Know what you want (on your team), what you’re hiring for, and who’s at the table. The idea of a new employee is exciting until they’re onboarded and you realize you’ve hired the right (or wrong) person with the wrong skills or intentions. • A coach will always have something to say about a thing without actual involvement. Knows the playbook backwards and forwards but doesn’t actually do the thing. • A consultant has no skin in the game. They work their contract, sits back, and points out all the flaws, leaving you to decide if you will act on the recommendations or not. But once that check has cleared 💵, that ship will sail. • An owner rolls up their sleeves, digs in the muck, and makes sense out of the items stuck in the mud. Now, no judgment - each person has their space and role in the race - but do YOU know what you need in this season? And have you hired accordingly? Do you need stability or structure? Scaffolding or support? …Because you shouldn’t be surprised when someone’s sitting in the cabin when you wanted them to take up an oar and row 🛶 #LeadershipMindset #Hiring #TeamDynamics #TeamBuilding #BusinessManagement

I was passed over for a promotion to director 3 times. The 3rd time this happened. I was completely devastated. But I didn’t know why I failed? What I was doing wrong? I was working long hours. I was worked weekends. I was delivering results. I had a great attitude. I was motivated. And I wanted it. I watched, confused, as my peers got promoted. Many of them were not as... Hardworking Motivated Reliable Or capable And I couldn’t understand how they were promoted But I wasn’t I knew something had to change, but what? I didn’t know what I was doing wrong? Heck I didn’t even know what I was doing right. So I asked one of my friends who was recently promoted. How did you do it? He said... “Oh that was easy, I hired a coach. I knew I wasn’t progressing how quickly I wanted to. But getting help could change that.” This experience, that conversation, that advice. Changed my life forever. I got a coach too. And uncovered the key gaps holding me back and more. We got to work... And within 6 months. I had 3 promotional opportunities. 1 year after that. I was promoted again. And doubled my impact and income. I learned 2 valuable lessons from this experience. 1. It’s not just about how hard you work, or the results you deliver. 2. You will always go further and faster when you get help. Drop a 👍 if this speaks to you! Share this post if you think it could help someone you know. #promotion #hiring #jobs #MASE -------------- I talk about this, what I did and more in a new Training I put together. Throw "TRAINING" below. And we'll make sure to get it over to you!

Documenting Series: My experiences along the journey to becoming a product manager Day 1. The past eight weeks have been an interesting experience in my career journey as I take on an exciting new path🎊 And before anyone asks: No, I am not dropping my wig and gown, it’s a collabo - as I look forward to transferring and implementing my legal experience in this new path. Documenting my experiences along this journey is invaluable for reflecting on my progress, learning from past experiences, and tracking my growth over time. Hence, why I’m sharing this with you. Throughout my career, my choices have always been driven by a desire to create impactful solutions, I mean solutions that really make a difference. My experience in the legal field sharpened my analytical, and critical thinking skills, and now, these same skills are proving invaluable as I pivot into product management. Product management gives me the unique opportunity to merge my legal expertise with design, teamwork, and strategic thinking. This allows me to make a broader impact, especially in industries where law intersects with technology and product development. To anyone considering a change in their career, I encourage you to embrace the journey. You’ve got the skills, the experience, and the drive to do more—and the path forward is always open to growth and new opportunities. #MotivationMonday #productmanagement #productmanager #product #solutions #careergrowth #skilldevelopment #5daysLinkedInchallenge #productdive #legaltech

The toughest part of being a hiring manager? Seeing potential in candidates we can't hire. It's like being a coach with a team of all-stars, but only five can play. To those we have to turn away: - Your skills are valuable - Your potential is real - Your time will come Don't let our "no" discourage you. It's often about circumstances, not capabilities. You are valuable. Your future team is out there, and they need you.

I'm often asked about the difference between full-time and fractional product work. Here's one of the things I always tell folks -- fractional is all about impact, impact, impact 🔥 This means that the ability to develop context quickly, ramp up (and get educated) around new problem spaces & industries and sniff out potential challenges for a product and team are crucial...and also what makes the role so damn fun and dynamic. Side-note: This is not to say this isn’t the case with full-time work. The best full-time folks certainly adopt this mindset. But I know this to be *particularly* the case with fractional work and what you should expect when working with a stellar fractional professional.

Networking in 2024: 1000+ connections... and I actually know maybe 150 of them. As my job search for Product Manager roles continues, I’ve been hitting my LinkedIn connections hard, trying to score an internal referral. But here’s the kicker: half the people I’m connnected out to, I barely remember why we connected! At this point, I’m tempted to send out “Reintroduce Yourself” messages just to get my bearings. When I finally message someone I "actually" know, I get, “Oh, that person? Sorry, I don’t actually know them either. They just looked friendly!” It’s like we’re all at one big virtual reunion where nobody remembers how we met in the first place. Here’s hoping that somewhere in this maze of third-degree connections, someone knows someone who can help me find the right door! Networking: it’s just like product management. Lots of trial, plenty of error, and the occasional win! #ProductManagement #NetworkingAdventures #JobSearchRealities #ReintroduceYourself
