The Evolution of Remote Work 2019: CEO “Remote work will never work for us...” 2020: CEO: “Guys, in order to keep the company going, we need you to work remotely...” 2021: CEO: “wow, remote work is amazing! Everyone is happy and more productive!” 2023: CEO: “remote workers are lazy, real work is done in the office...” 2025: CEO: “Okay, the party is over come back to the office or quit, we need collaboration...”
Very rough reality
This is extremely accurate. When we write policies or configure software, we try to do it as evergreen as possible to ensure that a change in environment will not impact the work we’ve done. Replacing the remote work model is setting corporations up for failure should another pandemic or some other catastrophic world event happen.
Use to focus my search on remote and hybrid roles but now it looks like in-person roles are hiring more.
2024: “Well I’m back in the office, I guess remote was a good try, huh?” 2025: “Sorry, you’re RIFed. Good luck on your next opportunity.”
Interesting
It’s literally because they are paying for the property. Only reason.
It all comes down to trust. Did you hire me to do my job or did you hire me to watch me sit at a desk? Spoiler alert: people can do their job while not at a desk or they can sit at a desk while not doing their job.
Follow the money trail. Long term rent on commercial properties, desks need to be filled. Control. Writing is on the wall.
I wish I could do what you do here....my mouth wont let me 😘
