Every year on June 12th, the world unites on the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫 to raise awareness and take action against this devastating global issue. Millions of children are forced into labor, and robbed of their childhoods and basic rights. This year's theme, "𝐋𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: 𝐄𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐫!", emphasizes the urgency of addressing this challenge. What I'm most proud of, though, is the #socialemotional growth our programs are supporting in BCM youth participants. We are tracking changes in #selfesteem, #selfefficacy, and sense of social #belonging, and have found  -Growth Across the Board: Participants consistently improve in self-esteem, self-efficacy, and social belonging from pre- to post-experience. -Deeper Engagement, Greater Impact: Youth who complete the full trip series (day hike, overnight, expedition) show greater gains than those who only participate in parts of the program. -Demonstrating Higher Gains: On average, BCM participants score higher in these dimensions than peers who did not engage in our programs. -Transforming Challenges into Growth: Youth with lower pre-trip scores experience the most substantial post-trip gains, demonstrating BCM's effectiveness for those facing greater social-emotional challenges. In short - lowering barriers to outdoor access for youth who stand to benefit from it the most is built into who we are. And, #camping #hiking and #backpacking don't have to be your thing to love what BCM does, it turns out that time spent outdoors is one of the most effective ways to help a young person advance in these, and many other critical, domains of #wellbeing.
