Here are Lucia’s key insights for making the most of your summer internship: Try New Things with Confidence: Don’t be afraid to throw yourself into new experiences. Lucia’s journey has included navigating crowded venues to capture live events and chaperoning students at the U.S. Capitol. Taking risks is essential for growth. Ask Questions: In a field like social media, where many factors influence content, it’s crucial to ask for clarification when needed. Supervisors prefer questions over avoidable mistakes. Lead with Open Ears and a Smile: Show genuine interest in what others do. Being curious and receptive helps build valuable connections, especially in the cultural sectors. Lucia’s approach emphasizes the importance of confidence, curiosity, and proactive learning. Awesome job, Lucia!

Here is how I turned an unpaid internship into a full time job: 1) Over communicate Ask every single question, give the smallest updates, share whatever relevant thought you have. 2) Take initiative Jump in to help your team mates, take up responsibility, look for more ways to contribute. 3) Be honest Flag whatever hurdles you are facing, point out areas where you think the company can do better for you, ask for help when needed. 4) Get the work done Stick to your deadlines, over deliver when needed, figure out ways to optimize your workflow And in all of this remember to have fun and learn something every single day!! We had over 50 applicants this semester and these six bright minds bring new perspectives that challenge us to think differently and push boundaries.
