free post adoption support services??!! whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhat?! "Does Petszel check in on how the adopted pets are adjusting to their new home? Post-adoption, Petszel sends surveys on behalf of the shelter to the new pet parents to understand how the transition to the new home is going. Surveys are sent to the pet parents on days 1, 7, 30, 60, and 90, where they can share what is working well, what challenges they have, and if they have scheduled this first vet visit. Currently, if any pet owner says they want shelter follow-up or have specific challenges, you will receive an email with the survey sent to your shelter account so your team can reach out to that adopter. Cats: Destructive scratching, Urinating and/or defecating outside the litter box, Aggression towards animals, or Aggression towards people Dogs: Food/resource guarding, Destructive chewing/scratching, Urinating and/or defecating in the house, Aggression towards animals, Aggression towards people"

Mars is dedicated to making the world a better place for pets and is committed to ending pet homelessness around the world. For the last 16 years, we’ve held an annual global ‘Pet Adoption Weekend’ to support animal shelters and raise awareness for pet adoption. Excitingly, this is the first year that campaign is going global! The theme of this year’s Global Adoption Weekend (12th - 13th October) is ‘comPETibility’, shining a light on how important it is to match pet parents and rescue animals based on shared lifestyle interests and behaviours that will set them up for a lifelong connection. In the UK, we’re working with the fabulous Fred Siriex and our friends at Battersea to ‘match make’ adopters to their perfect match. You wouldn’t pick a life partner based solely on looks alone, so why would you do the same for your pet? Our Global Pet Parent Study has uncovered a heartbreaking reality. From a study of 20,000 pet parents only 11% of dog owners and 17% of cat owners globally adopt from shelters. So this weekend (and always) consider adoption when you’re thinking about adding a new furry family member. #GlobalAdoptionWeekend #MarsPetAdotion #ProudlyMars #Battersea #Adoption #TomorrowStartsToday

As we wrap up National Pet Adoption Week, it's important to recognize a lesser-known reason behind overcrowded shelters: many elderly and disabled pet owners are forced to surrender beloved pets—not because they want to, but because they lack the right tools to safely care for them at home. When tasks like cleaning a litter box become too challenging, heartbreaking decisions often follow. Last year, around 25% of shelter intakes were due to owner surrenders driven by challenges like financial hardship and mobility issues. Enter LoftyLoo—the first-ever Accessible, Elevated Litter Box, designed to empower elderly and mobility-challenged cat owners. By addressing this crucial gap in pet care, LoftyLoo directly reduces the strain on overcrowded shelters. The more you know. I didn’t fully understand the gap in pet care until I witnessed it firsthand. A neighbor faced an impossible choice: surrender his cherished cat or somehow find a way to care for him with the right support. Watching him struggle made me sick to my stomach; he adored his furbaby, but with age and illness, bending over to clean a litter box on the floor was no longer an option. That’s how LoftyLoo™ was born. Did you know overcrowded shelters are often filled with pets surrendered by elderly and disabled owners—not by choice, but because they lack accessible tools for safe pet care? Last year, about 25% of shelter intakes were due to owner surrenders for reasons like mobility issues and financial hardship. These are heartbreaking statistics we hope to change. #PetCareSolutions #AnimalShelterSupport #AgingWithPets #InnovativePetProducts #SeniorPetCare #PetParentCommunity #PetWellness #ShelterOvercrowding #InclusivePetCare #LoftyLoo

More great tips for helping keep pets safe at home and cope with stress of July 4th. This type of support for adopters is so important. Nice job Petszel.
The 4th of July can be particularly stressful for pets due to the noise from fireworks displays. This is also one of the busiest periods for animal shelters and rescues. Most organizations have limited time and resources to develop holiday-specific content for adopters to ensure important safety considerations are delivered post-adoption. That’s why Petszel has created content focused on keeping pets safe and comfortable during the upcoming holiday. All pet parents who adopt from shelters partnered with Petszel this week will automatically receive important tips for keeping their pets safe during the 4th of July weekend.

📣PSA - Puppies (and kittens) are not a Christmas Present! They are a 15-year commitment! With the Christmas holidays fast approaching, we want to send a friendly reminder to everyone adding a new furry family member to their pack to expect a 15-year commitment! Data suggests that on average about 10-15% of the puppies adopted during the holiday season are returned to shelters within a matter of weeks. And that data only reflects what shelters can track and doesn't include the pets rehomed elsewhere. Did you know the dog adoption rule of 3/3/3? This is especially true with shelter pets! First 3 Days: This is the initial decompression period. Your new pet might feel overwhelmed and may exhibit signs of stress, such as hiding, pacing, or having accidents. It's important to give them space and limit interactions to help them settle in. First 3 Weeks: During this time, your pet starts to feel more comfortable and begins to understand both your and their new routine. This is also the period where behavioral issues may start to appear, and basic training can begin. First 3 Months: Your pet may start to show their true personality, have established human-pet bonds with the family, and truly become comfortable, confident, and secure in their new environment. Adding a new furry family member can be both challenging and rewarding at the same time. Please remember, this experience can be as stressful for them as it is for you! Please be patient and give your new pup some time to adjust. I promise you, with a little patience and work, this adjustment period will be well worth it for the both of you! Totally PAWsome is here to assist you and your pets with all of your pet care needs!
