🌿⚡ Harnessing renewable energy for resilient food systems 🌱🌍 A recently published opinion piece co-authored by Simon O'Connell, CEO of SNV, and Jacqueline Novogratz, CEO of Acumen, highlights critical insights into the global agri-food system's role in fossil-fuel emissions and the urgent need for sustainable solutions. Renewable energy use in regenerative agriculture is increasingly emerging as an option to enhance soil quality, preserve water, and reduce carbon emissions. However, it can be inaccessible to smallholder farmers worldwide, who remain disproportionately affected by the climate crisis and the breakdown of food systems. What is required: 💸 Financing instruments designed to meet the needs of smallholder farmers. 🌞 Increased adoption and scaling of renewable-energy technologies. 🌍 A shift in thinking about agriculture and energy, moving towards a broader framework.
