The fuel saving potential in Heavy Duty vehicles are up to 43% according to this study from International Council on Clean Transportation. In fact the reduction potential for EU panel vans, rigid trucks and tractor trailers was estimated in 43.6%, 31.5%, and 33% respectively." 🏋 🚛 Did you know that adapting EU weight and dimension regulations could make zero-emission trucking more efficient? The Weights & Dimensions Directive plays a critical role in enabling cleaner and greener transport solutions. ⚖️⚡ By increasing maximum allowable weights for #electric and #hydrogen trucks, trucks can account for heavier batteries and fuel cell systems without compromising cargo capacity. These changes are essential to make #zeroemission #trucking competitive with diesel alternatives. At ECTA, we’re working to ensure that regulations evolve to support innovation and sustainability in freight. 🌍💡Let’s move forward, together and check our latest position on the topic! #CleanTrucking #PolicyImpact #ZeroEmissionTrucking #ECTA https://lnkd.in/e6xcT2-N

Alternative heavy vehicle fuel technology faces an uncertain immediate future, so can Australia's nationwide net zero goals be helped by the improvement of road freight efficiency using traditional fuels? The Australian Trucking Association thinks so.

The Clean Freight Coalition penned this piece to raise awareness of the inflationary costs that will undoubtedly occur as a result of the hyper aggressive and unattainable EPA and CARB emission regulations. There are cleaner fuel options that provide immediate reductions in truck emissions and without a $1 trillion upgrade to the grid. The ill advised regulations must be corrected, or the entire supply chain and consumers will take a tremendous hit that isn’t necessary.

One of the key findings from the latest North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) Run on Less report was that more realistic data – including the good, bad, and ugly – on all key performance metrics of #batteryelectric vehicles is needed to help fleet managers contemplate new, clean technologies of any kind with eyes wide open. ❗ On average, new truck sales need to emit 43% less CO2 in 2030 than in 2019, 64% less in 2035, and 90% less in 2040. 🚌 City buses will witness an even swifter transition, with 90% of sales required to be zero-emission by 2030 and a complete phase-out of fossil-fueled bus sales by 2035. 🚛 More types of vehicles are now regulated. Over 90% of all new truck and bus sales are covered by the revised CO2 standards, up from 65% under the original standards. #icct #CO2emissions
Today, the European Parliament approved a mandatory target to reduce 90% of CO2 emissions from new trucks by 2040. 🚚 #CO2standards #trucks This landmark legislation raises the ambition of previous EU law and sets the stage for one of the world's most robust regulatory climate frameworks for heavy-duty vehicles. Trucks and buses are just 2% of the total vehicles on the road in the EU but account for a quarter of all transport-related emissions. The legislation mandates that: 🔴 On average, new truck sales need to emit 43% less CO2 in 2030 than in 2019, 64% less in 2035, and 90% less in 2040. 🚌 City buses will witness an even swifter transition, with 90% of sales required to be zero-emission by 2030 and a complete phase-out of fossil-fueled bus sales by 2035. 🚛 More types of vehicles are now regulated. Accelerating the change by bringing demand and supply together is important. But equally important is to do it right. This whitepaper is outlining the current state and path forward for book&claim in Road Logistics. Let’s flick the switch together!
Did you know that the switch to #electrictrucks is happening too slowly? But let's be hopeful. There are ways to accelerate the much-needed transition of the #roadfreight industry. In our free white paper, we highlight the role that #BookandClaim can play in this journey. It outlines: ▶️ Why Book and Claim is an essential tool to expedite the electrification of trucks. ▶️ Which boxes need to be ticked in order for this innovative solution to be successful. ▶️ How SBTi's draft framework on the use of 'environmental attribute certificates' to abate Scope 3, can impact the potential that Book and Claim has to accelerate fleet electrification. ▶️ Why Book and Claim needs a clear differentiation from offsetting. https://bit.ly/3XwqTQJ

🚚 Flick the switch in road electrification 🚚 I've been in the past in numerous discussions where Book and Claim for Road emerged as a key tool to speed up decarbonization in the road freight industry. To delve deeper into this subject, Kuehne+Nagel has crafted a comprehensive white paper that elucidates the principles of Book and Claim and advocates for its broader acceptance. We also stress the distinction from traditional offsetting practices and how Institutions like GHG Protocol and SBTi have a unique chance to support transport in-time decarbonisation -especially supporting SME carriers- by formalizing Book and Claim. When the world just recorded its hottest year on record in 2023, meaningful change can happen in road transportation with Book and Claim 🌍📈 #Sustainability #Logistics #Decarbonization #RoadFreight #BookAndClaim

I have a lot of questions about how the fleets and manufacturers can meet the EPA's #GHG3 standards by the give timelines. EPA says 25% of sleeper tractors would need to be #ZEV to meet emissions final rule in 2032. Going off just the current longhaul sales per year, a very conservative estimate puts that at 30,000 total longhaul trucks needed from OEMs total. That seems like a doable volume from a production standpoint with enough planning, but the problem is that NOT ONE production ready ZEV exists today that can do half of a diesel's 1,000+ mile range per fuel up. 450 to 500 miles is the max. These trucks can be three to seven times more expensive and will spend far more time recharging/refueling. “All of our OEMs and engine manufacturers—they're working diligently—but you run up against the thing called physics,” noted Murray Mullen, chair and senior executive officer, and president of Mullen Group, a Canadian logistics provider, at Truckload 2024 meeting in March. “And it's not that easy. If it was easy, we’d do it. And if it was cheaper, we'd have done it already.” And that's not even considering the heavy lift needed for building charging and hydrogen infrastructure. And the government has faith this could all get done in about seven years? Americans are divided on a just about everything, but can we all agree this is going to take way longer and cost way more? No one in transportation is trying to stop sustainability efforts, but nearly everyone I've spoken to at least, say it should be done right, not quick. Would you want the semi delivering your stuff to at 60 mph or 90 mph. And would you want your brakes replaced so fast there's no time to double-check work? If the answer is no, why would you want two of America's core industries--transportation and energy--to race towards nothing short of a total transformation. Read my latest below for more details (or, of course to tell me where my argument is off the mark):

With 750,000 diesel trucks on Australian roads, it’s interesting to think about how much of an impact Low and Zero Emission Trucks (LZETs) could make to our emissions over time. But as more organisations make a commitment to sustainability, it’s no surprise to see an increased interest in LZETs, as the local market becomes more familiar with their capabilities and applications.
