Get to know our VP Of Operations: Sean Hansen! How Did Your Career In Construction Start And How Has It Shaped Your Views Of Construction Safety? "I have been connected to construction since I was a kid, my dad was a superintendent. When I was in middle school and high school, I started getting to follow him to work now and again. That was my initial exposure to the construction industry. After college, I was looking to start my career so I fell back on my construction knowledge. I started working as a union laborer and it has evolved since then. I went from being a union laborer to a Project Engineer, then Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, Field Operations Manager, Director of Construction and now I am the VP of Operations for Technical Builders. In terms of how that has shaped my views of safety: having been someone who started their career in the field getting dirty and doing the work, gives you firsthand exposure to what a safe job site feels like and what a job site that's not safe feels like. It's a significant and impactful difference. So I have always strived, since the beginning, to create job site environments that allow people to feel safe. And when your workers and team feel safe on the job site, that's when you get the best from them. I think that my firsthand experience is what has shaped my perspective on safety. This is not the right attitude to have on a construction site, regardless of your position. The Jobsite is there for one goal: to get the project done correctly, safely, on time, and if possible under budget. It surprises me how many times I hear a Safety Professional say, "that is not part of my job description" or "If they need help, they should hire more people." Humility is key, as I have witnessed CEOs scraping dried mud from door jambs and individuals worth over $100 million working the "dumb end" of a concrete hose. Countless examples show the importance of being willing to do any task, from sweeping floors to serving as a hole watch or fire watch for 30 minutes. If you are too good to take out the trash in your own office, sweep a floor, make a mail run, or perform other essential tasks onsite, then you don’t belong there. Every contribution, no matter how small, plays a crucial role in achieving the project's goals. Let's remember that a collaborative and hands-on approach benefits everyone involved in the construction process.

With over 60 years of combined experience in construction, our field crew knows what it takes to get the job done right. Regular team meetings with our crew are always productive and an excellent opportunity to: ✅ Continuously review safety measures and protocols. We address site-specific concerns, seasonal hazards, and crucial safety topics to keep our team vigilant and prepared. ✅ Discuss customer experience. When a project starts, our field superintendents begin to have more direct contact with the customer, and they do an excellent job of displaying the same level of communication, integrity, and customer service as our office staff. ✅ Build rapport. Our guys in the field don't tend to see each other often, so it's always nice for them to meet face-to-face, talk through any issues in the field, or just shoot the breeze. ✅ Reinforce pride and principle. Our field crew always strives for perfection in their craftsmanship. They hold themselves to the highest level of accountability to creatively and effectively implement solutions for problems and opportunities. They care about their work, and that care extends to your project and the final product. Ready to see if TJK is a good fit for your next project? It's never too early to have a conversation—send us a message today! #Teamwork #DesignBuild #Construction #generalcontracting
