I now knight you ---------------- In the annals of Burmese history, it is noted that cities were often bestowed upon victorious commanders as a reward for their military successes. These cities, granted as tributes, were to be governed and developed by those commanders. However, the ability to conquer in war did not necessarily equate to the skills required for effective city management, particularly in terms of improving the living conditions for its inhabitants. The rulers, often of a different social class, were not always attuned to the needs of the people, as their focus lay elsewhere. With time, the shortcomings of such a monarchical system became apparent, prompting nations to evolve and reform. The concept of governance shifted from the spoils of war to the welfare of the citizenry. In modern times, the practice of assigning cities to military leaders has been replaced by elected or appointed officials, like mayors, who are tasked with administration and management aimed at the betterment of the community. In essence, the historical practice of rewarding military leaders with cities to govern is no longer prevalent, as the focus has shifted to ensuring competent leadership that prioritizes the well-being of the residents.

A large majority of Australians (61%) want to retain the current National Flag, but down 5% from 2010 This special Roy Morgan SMS Poll was conducted by SMS on Tuesday October 22, 2024 and Wednesday October 23, 2024, with an Australia-wide cross-section of 1,312 Australians. The survey was conducted as King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s first visit to Australia as reigning monarchs came to an end. Australians were asked: “Do you think Australia should have a new design for our National Flag or not?” At the same time Australians were asked about their views on the retention of the Monarchy. A majority of Australians, 57% (down 3% points since September 2022) believe Australia should remain a Monarchy while only 43% (up 3% points) say Australia should become a Republic with an elected President. ➡ Read more: https://lnkd.in/gi6KJ_KJ #AustralianPolitics #RoyMorgan #Survey

It was my great pleasure to answer 11 excellent questions by Jeffrey Friedman on my article's main argument, findings, and present-day relevance. Especially if yo don't have the time to read the 50-page article, I highly recommend this 20-minute International Security Podcast on "Not So Innocent: Clerics, Monarchs, and the Ethnoreligious Cleansing of Western Europe"
Ethnic cleansing is often seen as a specifically modern phenomenon. But in the newest episode of the International Security: Quarterly Journal podcast, Sener Akturk talks to Jeffrey Friedman about how the medieval Catholic Church facilitated the ethnoreligious cleansing of Muslim and Jewish communities across Western Europe, and its implications for twentieth- and twenty-first-century ethnic cleansing in places like Cambodia, Iraq, the Soviet Union, and Syria.

5 American hostages are being held by Hamas in Gaza, deprived of the very freedoms we cherish. Their plight is a stark reminder that the fight for liberty is ongoing. Our collective independence is not complete until every American is free. Here's what you can do: 1. Urge Congress to help release the hostages held by Hamas. 2. Tell your lawmakers to do everything in their power to bring our fellow citizens back to safety. As part of the U.S. Commission for the Preservation of America's Heritage Abroad of America's Heritage Abroad, we believe in the importance of caring for one another, especially when fellow Americans are in peril. When five Americans are kidnapped abroad, it's our duty to stand up and demand action. Our voices can make a difference. Together, we can work towards a world where everyone can celebrate their own independence. May freedom ring for all. #IndependenceDay #FreedomForAll #BringThemHome #UrgeCongress #HeritageAbroad

Happy Juneteenth from LETS GO Boys and Girls! This culturally historic holiday marks the official emancipation of slaves following the American Civil War. Although the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 declared all American slaves as free, the doctrine was unable to be enforced in Confederate territories. On June 19th, 1865, Union soldiers marched into Galveston Bay, Texas, and decreed the freeing of the state’s slaves. The holiday became known as "Juneteenth" among the newly freed Texans, and over time has become a celebration of independence, solidarity, and empowerment for African-Americans. Today, take some time to learn about our country’s history, look back on how far we have come, and consider how we, as a collective, can continue to make a difference. #Juneteenth2024

The two people in Canberra represent the Commonwealth/ Approximately 100 Stolen Countries. Two people that continue to benefit financially because of one family in the world stealing Aboriginal lands around the planet. Two people that represent colonisation in Australia - 236 years of history on this continent. They are not your Royal Family, Australia. The only Royal Families in this Country with #SovereignRights are Aboriginal Peoples. How do you treat your true Royal Families from this continent? Turn a blind eye and therefore ignore the atrocities of a #British not Australian Family that you call "Royal"??? Two people visit Australia, and Australians embrace them knowing who they are and what they represent in this country's 236 year old story? Australians that recognise the British "Royal Family" (I would use another term to describe them...) are Not True Australians. Plain and simple. You must recognise the Sovereignty of Aboriginal Peoples. You are British (or wherever your ancestors come from) until you respectfully recognise Aboriginal Sovereignty.
