🚪 Understanding Routes of Entry: How Substances Enter the Body 🚪 In the workplace and beyond, understanding how substances can enter the body is key to staying safe and protecting our health. Whether you’re working with chemicals, handling hazardous materials, or just navigating everyday environments, being aware of the routes of entry can help you take precautions. Here are the four primary pathways: 1️⃣ Inhalation: Breathing in fumes, dust, gases, or vapors is one of the most common routes. Always use proper ventilation or respiratory protection when needed. 2️⃣ Absorption: Substances can pass through the skin or eyes. Wearing gloves, goggles, and protective clothing is essential when handling potentially harmful materials. 3️⃣ Ingestion: This occurs when substances are accidentally swallowed, often through contaminated hands, food, or drinks. Practice good hygiene—wash your hands thoroughly before eating or drinking! 4️⃣ Injection: Though less common, this can happen when the skin is punctured by contaminated objects, like needles or sharp tools. Use safe handling practices and proper disposal methods. #WorkplaceSafety #HealthAndSafety #RoutesOfEntry #StayProtected

It's #FunFactFriday Let's talk ticks 🕷️🕷️ While there is a government database for monitoring ticks, the best practice is still preventing contact. The best way to prevent Lyme disease is to avoid being bitten by a tick. Follow these tips when heading outside in areas where ticks can be found: Prevent: - Wear light coloured long-sleeved shirts and pants. - Tuck your shirt into your pants, and your pants into your socks. - Wear closed-toe shoes. - Use bug spray with DEET or Icaridin (always follow label directions). - Walk on cleared paths or walkways. - You can also wear permethrin-treated clothing, now available in Canada (always follow label directions). Check: - Shower or bathe as soon as possible after being outdoors. - Do a daily full body tick check on yourself, your children, your pets and your gear. - Put your clothes in a dryer on high heat for at least 10 minutes. Scrubs: ↓ contam. risk vs. coats, easier to clean (daily wash feasible). Favored in high-risk zones (OR/ER). ↑ patient comfort in procedural settings. Less MRSA risk on attire (3.5–19.1% in coats). Uniformity improves hygiene, cost-effective, aligns w/ BBE.

Hand sanitizer is a convenient way to keep germs at bay, especially when soap and water aren't readily available. But for maximum effectiveness, proper technique is key! Here's a quick guide to hand sanitizer etiquette for the business world: Do: • Choose a sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. • Apply enough to cover all surfaces of your hands. • Rub your hands together for at least 20 seconds, ensuring all areas are covered - don't forget your thumbs and fingertips! • Let your hands air dry completely before touching anything. Don't: • Rely solely on sanitizer for visibly dirty or greasy hands. In these cases, wash with soap and water. • Forget to sanitize after shaking hands, coughing, or sneezing. • Touch your face after using sanitizer - it can still harbor germs for a short time. • Share your hand sanitizer - it defeats the purpose of preventing the spread of germs! • Skimp on the rubbing time - 20 seconds is the minimum for effective germ-killing! By following these simple tips, you can ensure proper hand hygiene and make a positive impression in your professional interactions. #health #hygiene #etiquette #professionals

Why Restoration Teams Need Infection Control Training (Just Like Healthcare Workers) If you’re in the restoration industry, you’re dealing with top tier pathogens, it's not just our healthcare staff that face these types of bugs. The only difference? The environment. The risks are the same. In fact, you’re likely stepping into environments where pathogens like mold, bacteria, and viruses are thriving in places you can’t even see. And guess what? It’s your job to safeguard yourself, your team, and the people you serve. But here’s the thing: most people think infection control is only something for healthcare workers. Newsflash—it’s not. Restoration teams need just as much training in microbiology, PPE, proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques because they’re facing unpredictable conditions every time they step into a hoarding situation, a flood-damaged home, or a trauma scene. To all the insurance companies out there funding these clean-ups: Before you cut the next check, ask where they were trained and by whom. It’s not just about a clean floor—it’s about safety and proper decontamination. Because the truth is, if they don’t have the right infection control training, everyone is at risk—your team, the property owner, and everyone else who walks into that space after the job’s done. This industry needs a shift. Infection control isn’t optional—it’s essential. #InfectionControl #RestorationIndustry #CleaningSafety #ProperTraining #PathogenSafety #InsuranceReform #DoItRight #CleanOpsCollective #ThinkDifferently
If You’re Cleaning a Hoarder House, Your PPE and Training Matter—Big Time I recently came across a video of a cleaning service tackling a "Level 9" hoard (yes, that’s the worst level)—we’re talking piles of stuff, dust, mice, and droppings everywhere. The level of contamination is jaw-dropping. But the real kicker? The people cleaning it up were woefully under-prepared and dangerously under-protected. What did I see? ➡ No respiratory protection or just a surgical mask while cleaning floors covered in dust and mouse droppings. ➡ No shoe coverings. One person was even kneeling on the floor in jeans. Yes, you read that right. ➡ They were using Mr. Clean’s Clean Freak, a retail product that is totally inappropriate for this situation. ➡ To top it off, their idea of "sanitization" was a homemade cocktail of isopropyl alcohol and Dawn dish liquid. Spoiler alert: that doesn’t cut it for something this hazardous. Here’s the problem: If you’re going to clean spaces like this, you need to be properly trained and use the right personal protective equipment (PPE). This isn’t just about the safety of the cleaning crew—it’s about the safety of anyone coming back into that house. Mouse droppings? They carry hantavirus, and dust filled with rodent waste can be seriously dangerous when airborne. The lesson? If you’re going to be in this line of work, get trained, get the right gear, and don’t cut corners. You’re not just cleaning; you’re mitigating a serious health risk. The dangers of being undertrained in situations like this are very real—for you, for your team, and for the people who will live in that space after you’re gone. Restoration & Remediation would love for you to call attention to this because it puts a stain on the entire industry.
