Brits don't want to talk about their health, right? Wrong! Our new report has found that the majority of UK adults want people working in public facing roles to be trained to have conversations about physical and mental health. 💬 Whether at work, in your local gym, or at your child's school, millions of conversations happen everyday that could have an impact on your health. From encouraging exercise to signposting to mental health support, these conversations are key to influencing positive behaviour changes. 📣 We're calling for the widespread roll out of our Making Every Contact Count (MECC) approach across everyday settings, which trains staff to integrate conversations about health into their routine practice. By encouraging small behaviour changes at an individual level, we can have an impact on the overall health of the UK and reduce pressure on the NHS. 👉 Read the report and find out how you can take our new MECC eLearning yourself: https://ow.ly/t2kC50V1YuA
Love the MECC approach! Real meaningful conversations ! It’s been awhile since we met Nelly Araujo ! 🙏
It's so important to make every contact count when that one contact might even be the only one someone has or certainly the only one with someone in a good and educated position when there is so much contrary and inaccurate advice available on the internet etc.
The brilliant Nelly Araujo taking forward the MECC approach started with the equally brilliant Karen Pearson many moons ago!
I always hear that Men don't want to talk about their health, but I've spoken with thousands on building sites, barber shops, workplaces, snooker halls, town centres and sporting events over the years. I always find that if I'm polite, curious, really listen, they realise I care and we have a great conversation that hopefully leads to change.
Agree! Small, everyday conversations can spark change. As a registered nutritionist and coach, I see how a simple nudge—whether about food, movement, or stress—can make a big difference. The challenge I see is making sure these conversations feel natural, supportive, and actually lead to action. Excited to see how MECC helps make that happen!
