What is cleaner than energy generated by offshore windfarms? Offshore windfarms supplemented by zero emission support vessels! This retrofitted electric crew transfer vessel will be one of many to come, with work undertaken by Volvo Penta. "Volvo Penta, a leading provider of power solutions for the marine industry, will supply its advanced Inboard Performance System (IPS) for this pioneering vessel. The retrofit will involve replacing the vessel's existing combustion engines with a fully electric propulsion system, eliminating emissions entirely. This move aligns with Volvo Penta's broader efforts to support sustainable boating practices and follows recent collaborations with industry players like Northern Offshore Services and Sanlorenzo Yachts. The vessel, developed for sea transport and crew transit service operator Tidal Transit, will undergo retrofitting on the Ginny Louise, a 20-metre diesel-powered Mercurio vessel. The retrofit, estimated at £8 million (€9.4 million), receives significant funding from the Zero Emissions Vessel and Infrastructure (ZEVI) program, part of the UK Government's efforts to promote clean maritime solutions." Working like water borne mini buses, there are several advantages for them to go fully electric: 1. More precise manuevering at low speed and dynamic positioning, thereby facilitating safer personnel transfer to/from windfarms. 2. The lack of noise and vibration translates to quieter rides for the passengers, and less fatigue for the crew. 3. Most importantly, lower maintance costs and downtime for the shipowners. Emphasis must be made to train the crew to make them comfortable handling the equipment and ensuring adequate charging points. How can we encourage such uptake in the crewboat sector? Feel free to comment below. #batterypower #sustainableshipping #decarbonisation

"Older cargo boats with new sails can use propulsive energy from the wind for up to 30% of their power, while cargo vessels designed specifically for wind could rely on it for up to 80% of their needs, says Allwright, who is still working on standardized measurement criteria to figure out which combination of ship and sail model is most efficient." #windship #windpropulsion #sustainableshipping #windassistedship #modernshipping #vaisala #IWSA #WASP https://lnkd.in/dw2eGKHd

I have been witness to many lively discussions on the prediction of sustainable fuels being prioritized to ✈️ aviation before ⛴️ marine. 🤔 Are decision makers taking into account that aviation supplies are more often than not transported by sea? LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS (LDA), for example, ship plane parts for Airbus by a fleet of RoRo vessels. In fact, they just recently ordered 3️⃣ new RoRo's equipped with Wärtsilä Marine ⛽️ methanol engines and rotor sails. With vessel delivery set for 2026, this move alone will assist Airbus in ↘️ reducing 30% of CO2 emissions from all maritime operations by 2030. A major accomplishment toward their overall ambition to ↘️ reduce fuel burn and CO2 emissions by upward of 50% across their transatlantic fleet by 2030 (compared to 2023). Wärtsilä Marine is one of the 💪🏼 strongest partners you can team up with in planning for decarbonisation. Not only can we aide in 🔎 identifying options that will keep you afloat and minimize 🦺 stranded assets, but we will set you on a secure path to achieving a 🌱 decarbonised future - today. 👉🏻 Click through to explore the challenge, solution and benefits of this particular customer case study. One of many collaborations in designing the strongest and most sustainable future of maritime, together with our 🤝🏻 valued customers. #methanol #sustainablefuel #rotorsail #marine #maritime #emimssions #emissionreduction

🚢 Can we really go from a 14.2% reduction in global shipping emissions this year to meet the IMO’s 40% target by 2030? It is a massive challenge - but we've got solutions that work TODAY. Our Engine Part Load Optimization (EPLO) upgrades are delivering immediate results, with vessels seeing a 3-5% fuel savings, and sometimes much more, after just a two-day port stay! With an average age of 12.6 years in the global shipping fleet, thousands of ships could use upgrades as a “quick fix” to get on the path decarbonization. Thanks for some fascinating insights from our Senior Engine Expert Matthias Reichmann, who's been travelling the world, leading these transformative projects on ships like Clipper Hebe and Neptune Hellas. 🌍 Check out the article to learn more – and see some cool 😎 photos of our Global Product Manager for EPLO Solution, Matthias Reichmann and other engineers boarding these giant ships ➡ https://lnkd.in/gU3bttef #Accelleron #Shipping #Decarbonization #FuelEfficiency #Sustainability

Exciting news from my colleagues in Europe: The Futura. Built at Cemre Shipyard in Turkey, this zero-emission freight ferry will soon operate between Puttgarden, Germany, and Rødby, Denmark, showcasing the future of sustainable marine transport. The battery-powered Futura is equipped with mtu solutions. Our mtu Series 4000 gensets provide reliable backup power, seamlessly kicking in when additional propulsion is required to reach speeds of up to 16 knots. With cutting-edge fuel efficiency and an innovative SCR system, these gensets not only meet IMO Tier III emissions standards but also maintain emissions below strict NOx limits—even at peak performance. For future readiness, the gensets can be swapped for methanol-ready versions through a deck-access hatch, eliminating the need for extensive structural works. Check out the video to see how our mtu gensets were installed in the Futura’s hull. And if you're interested in transitioning to sustainable marine solutions, #TalkToUs to find the right setup for your fleet. #mtuSolutions #sustainablePropulsion #hybrid
