The Quantum Error Correction workshop at IMSI https://lnkd.in/gZtYmgps last week provided an insightful update on recent progress on the field. But, to better understand the implications of QEC developments it's important to combine them with quantum algorithmic and hardware advances. For an example on how to do that follow our perspective paper recently published in PRX Quantum! https://lnkd.in/gJXe3kd5

DARPA released a Program Solicitation (DARPA-PS-24-26) last week for all hardware providers chasing a goose that lays golden eggs. If you make quantum computers and can build one by 2033, you might consider presenting your technology. The race is on to build a utility-scale quantum computer (USQC), and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) wants to put your ideas through the wringer if you are willing and able. Dr. Joseph Altepeter and his team are ready to separate the wheat from the chaff. There is also an RFI for organizations wanting to join the Test and Evaluation team to test and evaluate quantum computing technology. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is a critical partner, and the State of Illinois is a key partner. We encourage you to read the September TCAS-II paper highlight, "Inner Transfer Functions in Incremental ΔΣ ADCs". 📝 Authored by: Paul Kaesser; Johannes Wagner; Omar Ismail; Maurits Ortmanns In this brief the transfer functions from inner nodes of incremental Delta-Sigma (I-DS) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are analyzed. Such transfer functions are needed in order to predict the attenuation of error sources like noise and distortion from within the loopfilter (LF). 🔗 Continue reading on IEEE Xplore here: https://loom.ly/gQPdwqY #TCASII #PaperHighlight #CircuitsandSystems #ResearchBriefs

CISTER researchers won the Best Paper Candidate Award at RTCSA 2024 The paper entitled "Improved Memory Contention Analysis for the 3-Phase Task Model" authored by Jatin Arora, PhD, Syed Aftab Rashid, Geoffrey Nelissen, Cláudio Maia, and Eduardo Tovar was the Best Paper Candidate of the 30th IEEE International Conference on Embedded and Real-Time Computing Systems and Application (RTCSA). RTCSA 2024 took place on 21-23 August 2024 in Sokcho, South Korea. The paper addresses the problem of DRAM contention in modern COTS multicore platforms and provides a fine-grained analysis to upper-bound the contention that phased tasks, e.g., the 3-phase tasks, can suffer. This achievement marks an important milestone toward predictable multicore platforms ✔ #isep #feup #politécnicoporto #universidadedoporto #softwaredev #embeddedsystems #computerscience #realtimesystem #technology #tech #computerenginneering #research #researchpaper

1950 The National Bureau of Standards dedicates its Standards Western Automatic Computer (SWAC) at the Institute for Numerical Analysis in Los Angeles. Rather than testing components like its companion, the SEAC, the SWAC had an objective of computing using relatively off-the-shelf technology. It used a Williams Tube -- a modified CRT capable of modest (256 word) electrostatic bit storage -- and a magnetic drum (4,096 words) for storage. The word length was 37-bits and it could add two operands in 64 microseconds. The SWAC performed much useful work, including searching for Mersenne prime numbers, X-ray crystallography, linear and differential equation solving and operated until December 1967. Parts of SWAC are on display at The Computer History Museum. *CHM #onthisdayinmath

Did you miss our last seminar on "Quantum Error Correction with Constant Time Overhead" by Michael Vasmer, from Xanadu (Canada)? You can now watch it online! This insightful seminar provides participants with essential knowledge about quantum error correction and its potential to overcome noise in quantum computers. Michael Vasmer introduced the concepts of quantum error correction and the decoding problem, followed by a discussion on a family of quantum error-correcting codes that only require a single round of parity-check measurements for reliable error correction. ⬇ Watch the full seminar:
