GBQ deals in facts, data and experts in their field. It stimulates meaningful discussions designed to challenge strategic thinking and unite those who wish to act in the best long-term interests of the game,” Robert Maxfield, Chief Executive of The PGA. The PGA’s Golf for All research project, in partnership with Ipsos UK, offers meaningful data on why people are attracted to different forms of the game. In this edition of GBQ, we investigate what it means. Also in this issue, we hear from other experts and game-changers in their respective fields, including Genelle Aldred, Iain Carter, Lindsey Collumbell FCIPR FCIM, Claire Fraser, Alyson Mckechin, Ray Nyabola (Black British Golfers), Robert Rock and Nick Solski. Anybody know who won the first round of TGL last night? Thought not. No coverage in the UK press this morning. Not even the TGL Facebook page covered the result - how weird is that? Turns out that The Bay Golf Club beat New York Golf Club in a 9-2 drubbing. A quick scan of social media seems to show a polarisation of views - from "LIV lite" to "really enjoying it but please improve the graphics and tone done the commentators". On the basis of the video clips I've seen, I think the big winners in golf will be the golf simulator vendors and installers of artificial greens. The indoor stadium looked stunning - the huge screen was a massive success. I also thought the short game area and putting green was amazing. Here's my take: Is this the future of pro golf - nope. Is this the future of off season pro golf - probably not. Will we be talking about this the same way golfers of a certain age reminisce about Shell's Wonderful World of Golf - unlikely. Is this going to 'grow the game of golf' - depends which version of golf you want to grow. Does this appeal to the hoardes of golf fans who rock up to the Waste Management Phoenix Open, or the party hole at any LIV tournament - absolutely. It's early days and there are some things that need to be sorted out with the production. But ...

It’s Game Day! The AFL Grand Final kicks off in just a few hours here in Australia and I couldn’t help but reflect on how in business, we don’t always have that ultimate win, that cup we can hold up high and celebrate an end to a quarter, a year or a decade. Unless your goal is to grow and sell, there’s not always that ultimate "Grand Final" win that marks the end. Instead, every breakthrough needs to feel like winning the big game, an achievement worth celebrating, but also a signal that it’s time to level up for the next season. Each time you break through a ceilin, whether it’s through growth, efficiency, or innovation, celebrate it as a victory, but not the end. Business is a continuous cycle of reaching new heights, then refocusing your sights on the that ultimate goal and taking on the next challenge to get there. Keep pushing, keep breaking ceilings, and keep moving forward! Go Swans! -RF #businessgrowth #growthmindset #breakingtheceiling #aflgrandfinal

Now that the European Championships have concluded and Gareth Southgate has completed his eight-year tenure as England Manager, public opinion seems divided on his success. If we likened this to a business, eight years ago it might have been said to be on the verge of bankruptcy with poor results, demotivated staff, and significant underperformance. Since Gareth's appointment, he has statistically revitalised the team, which no longer operates in isolated groups, akin to a business's workforce. However, the customers (England supporters) harbour mixed feelings about his tenure, despite him being the most successful manager in nearly six decades. If these customers were to rate the team(company) on Google, it's uncertain how many would award five stars. Many business coaches believe in winning or learning. It could be argued that Southgate's cautious approach at Euro 2020 indicates he hasn't learned, continuing with a defensive strategy and a mindset more fearful of losing than eager to win. Having worked with numerous business owners and managing directors, I've observed that taking risks is often necessary for progression rather than remaining static. It will be intriguing to see who succeeds him and their chosen strategy. Are you pro or against Southgate during his term as England manager?

🏆 It's Coming Home! As England gears up for the Euro 2024 final, Ollie Watkins' ascent from non-league obscurity to national hero offers profound lessons for all of us, even to those of us in tech. **Believe in Your Vision** Even when the path isn't clear, maintain your conviction. Back in 2015, Ollie Watkins was playing for Weston-Super-Mare. Fast forward nine years, and he's scoring the winner for England in the Euro semis. National hero. Get that lad a statue. That doesn't materialise without self-belief. In tech, belief fuels innovation. When convinced of your project's value (and do keep testing that conviction), push forward, innovate, and disrupt—even if others are yet to catch up. **Committed, Consistent Effort** Dreams don't work unless you do. Graft day-in, day-out. Rinse and repeat. In tech this means, develop, deploy and iterate tirelessly, even if the feedback is poor and the results aren't coming straight away. With committed, consistent effort, they will. Success doesn't come from what you do occasionally but from what you do consistently. **Master the Game Plan** Work smart, not just hard. Watkins' last-second goal was the culmination of endless rehearsals of that scenario. He planned for it. When his moment came, there was no pressure—just muscle memory in action. Back...of...the...net! We've all got to have a clear strategy in place that we execute on. Meticulously plan and practise your approach and when opportunities or challenges arise, your response is as instinctive as it is effective. Win or lose, Watkins has demonstrated that sometimes the journey and growth experienced along the way are victories in themselves. 👏 It's time to bring it home, England!
